Ranbir Dahiya-India Shining or Suffering?

Posted by : on September 25, 2008 – 8:45 am4 Comments

Ranbir Dahiya

Ranbir Dahiya is a surgeon by profession. Presently giving his service to Haryana Vigyan Manch. I am very glad to invite Mr Dahiya on Orkut’s Hall of Fame to shed some light on their life and profession and also very thankful to him for accepting my invitation and giving me a chance to have some words with a person like him. Thanks and Welcome Sir.

Sir, can you please tell us about your family, education and professional background?

Basically I am a surgeon working in PGIMS, Rohtak, Haryana as senior Professor. My wife is a retired principle from education depts. We have three children. Eldest daughter is a school teacher and she is married. Second one is a college lecturer and married. Third one is my son who has done MCA and a soft ware engineer in Noida

Sir what is Haryana Vigyan Manch and its objective, would you like to shed some light on your role in that?

It is a non Governmental Org of Doctors, Engineers, Vetr. Surgeons social discipline people and social activists to develop scientific temper in the people of Haryana with different communication means like drama, folk songs, seminars, Children Science congress, Science melas (fair), exposing miracles. HVM had a national award on science communication from Dept of Science and technology way back in 1992. I was the founder secretary of HVM in 1987 and at present I am president of the same

How was your experience being as a surgeon and now as a professor?, did you worked in Haryana or went to other places too?

Really I enjoy my surgery. I have not gone outside Haryana for doing job. Otherwise for Gyan Vigyan movement work I have visited many states.

What do you think about the education system of India? What is a necessary change that can help in developing stronger educational infrastructure? Please share your views.

There are two India

1. Shining India

2. Suffering India

For Shining India there is an air-conditioned home, School, Market, hospital, etc. They do not have problem of spending money for purchasing education of any kind. Five star culture cannot understand the needs of education of the suffering India. Many of the children cannot go to school because they cannot afford whereas others who went to schools could not sustain because the atmosphere of the schools is not congenial for them. The drop out rate is very high. Moreover the education with human face should be there. Child centered teaching process should be there instead of teacher centered teaching process. Similarly in colleges and other higher institutions the poor and medium ranged students cannot afford the education. The suffering India Schools and colleges are having infrastructural deficiencies and deficiency of Human Resource also.
Haryana, for the last few years the education in Haryana is going out of reach of common man children whether it is medical, dental, engineering or simple college education. Some of the students left MBBS course seat and opted for dental because they were not in a position to bear the medical college expenses.

Drastic Changes are required so that suffering India can get quality education at large.

How you take the reservation policies for that suffering India? Do you think that It will help those who really need to be uplifted or it is otherwise another deficiency added to suffering India?

Education of Shining India or Education of suffering India?

An University or education centre is an embodiment of development of humanity, tolerance and reason for the search of Truth. It always encourages the human development for the betterment of the society as a whole.

Indian education System is passing through drastic changes to meet the needs of Shining India and make show off for the education of Suffering India.

The new components which have been added since mid eighties on the pretext of New Education Policy are:
1..The Deemed Universities are being encouraged

2.. Self Financing Colleges-”Autonomous Colleges ” are being encouraged which do not depend on Govt Grants

3.. The self financing courses in Govt colleges and Universities are being encouraged

Both these have made the education very costly and beyond the reach of Suffering India.
4.. Certain Courses in the name of tradition and Culture are being introduced and encouraged which are against the Scientific temper and development of society like Astrology and Jyotish etc
5..The withdrawal of the state support is there as the education budget is not raised to 6% of the GDP.
6.. For Suffering India DISTANT EDUCATION AND OPEN SCOOL CONCEPT has been put forth. The Schools and colleges without teachers do not have any meaning and cannot give QUALITY education to Suffering India

So think about Suffering India Education on PRIORITY basis
Lot of things can be discussed and debated.
HARYANA

For the last few years the education in Haryana is going out of reach of common man children whether it is medical, dental, engineering or simple college education. Some of the students left MBBS course seat and opted for dental because they were not in a position to bear the medical college expenses.

RESERVATION ISSUE

1..First go I should say that in the last agitation against reservation of OBC’s I was for reservation.

2..Secondly, I think that the reservation is not the holistic answer to uplift the suffering India.
3..Sceduled caste reservations are also being questioned along with OBC reservations.

4..Reservations for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes as the minimum relief extended by the Indian State to those sections of society who have historically and socially suffered the worst oppression over the centuries. While supporting this reservation (totaling 22.5 per cent at the Centre and varying in States according to the proportion of population of SCs and STs), I think that this is limited concession which does not tackle the roots of the problem necessary for their social and economic emancipation. The history of four decades of reservations for SCs and STs amply confirms this fact. Only a thin stratum (not more than five to ten per cent) of the SC population has benefited from the reservations. Even in education, they are unable to fully utilize the quotas allotted to them.
The untouchables are still not “touchable” despite the four decades of constitutional sanction against this evil practice. They are subject to lynching, rape of women and arson when they seek to stand up for their rights. Altogether 28,736 cases of atrocities against scheduled castes were reported in 1987 and 1988.
The reason for this is the lack of change in the material conditions of the vast mass of the scheduled castes people living in the rural areas. Land, the main means of production, is outside their control.
What can be the answer:: ?
IN medical Colleges all the students who get admission in MBBS should be offered MD/MS so that the issue of any conflict can be taken care of.

Test can be for different subjects for MD/Ms but every one who passes MBBS must get Seat for post graduation.

The past decade and half have seen a vitriolic anti people offensive which seeks to establish the “eternality” of ‘open market system’. However , the current phase of globalization are resoundingly vindicating that ‘open market system’ far from solving the more important problem before the humanity only imposes greater exploitation and burdens on the vast majority of the people.
Shining India followers are depending upon and supporting the imperialist globalization with utmost enthusiasm. But two important features of present Globalization require attention

1..This process has been accompanied by growing economic inequalities both within countries between the rich and poor and between the rich and poor countries. The Human Development Report 2007-2008 confirms this with undisputable statistics. 40 percent of World’s population living on less than $ 2 a day accounts for 5 percent of global income while the richest 20 percent accounts for three quarters of World income. More than 80% of the World’s population lives in countries where income differentials are widening.

2. The present Globalization has given rise to the phenomenon of “jobless growth” The growth of employment has always been lower than the GDP growth rate globally.
Continued

Sir you have seen many changes in Haryana and I am sure you are quiet updated with the national news as well, how many the things around you changed from last 20 years? Socially, economically and in other ways? Are you optimistic about the future of India with the present scenario?

Difficult question

First we can start with International scenario which is reflecting on our country
then turn by turn I will reflect in 4-5 series

Join the struggle to build a united and secular India.
Fight against class exploitation, social oppression and imperialist
penetration.
Ensure social justice and progress for all.

• Imperialist globalization and financial opening is further resulting in a net flow of resources from the developing countries to the advanced economies.

• The contradictions inherent within the process of globalization have emerged clearly

• The neo liberal policies, being pursued in most countries under imperialist globalization, are also leading to widening wealth and income inequalities and increasing concentration of asset ownership.

• The ferocious face of US imperialism is seen in Iraq where around one
million Iraqis, most of them civilians, have been killed since the invasion and occupation in 2003.

• The US “war on terror” has extracted a heavy toll. Side by side Anti-Imperialist Resistance is Widening

• Challenge of Climate Change
The primary cause for bringing the world to such a disaster has been the predatory capriciousness of global capitalism. USA, the leading polluter, with over 16 per cent of global emissions
despite having less than 4 per cent of total world population, continues under the Bush administration to defy international opinion by refusing to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

• “The struggle against communalism and the economic policies are in fact
connected to the anti–imperialist task, as both the Hindutva forces and the liberalizers are distinguished by their pro–imperialism.”

Self respect and self image is in danger from The Open market Era side. Through media youth is being misguided in a very calculated manner via Violence, Sex and drugs promotion so that youth forgets its own real issues and challenges before humanity. Human face of every individual is under threat. How to shave it . Let us debate and find the answer that how our human face can be saved and how the problems of suffering India come in the centre of the development issue.
Very challenging indeed!

    Sir,
I completely agree with you in many respects tnat the present education system is diluted. This is due to result of many self centered politically motivated administrtors/ vice chancelors who are responsible in spoiling the content of the system from syllabus to managing to awarding grades and degrees even to the extent of selling the degrees . I am more for appreciating the efforts of the individuals in any constructive fashion. In fact the educatioin system is not encouraging , or instituting, stimulating , creating the objective perception of reaLITY among young potentials. the practical orientation is lost in many respects. I am afraid that we seem to be preparing more of key board operators, whivh can be done by physically challenged people. we need to prepare more thinking potentials. alas kudos to the thinking of the erst while education ministers , whose efforts and actions and thought s were so constuctiveto make india as mere bharat mahan. yes we need to refine the system from one end.more in amy next,
