Memories of 2008- OrkutHeroes Flashback

The year 2008 was the birth year of OrkutHeroes.com a social media blog magazine dedicated to users and communities of Orkut.com a social networking website. I am glad to share those sweet, sad and exciting memories with all of our readers, fans and people who supported us and trusted us whole year. I wish that the New Year 2009 will be more happy and prosperous year for us and all our readers. Below is a summary and unforgettable memories of all 10 months we served you by publishing interviews, reviews, articles, opinions and greetings.
Thank you for being with us.

March
11th march 2008 was one historical day for orkutheroes when I created a community Orkut’s Hall of Fame in the honor of all those internet freaks who made their mark by setting new definition of using social networking as a tool to spread, educate and help people by their knowledge, determination and friendly attitude. It was simply a wonderful experience for me to discover people with potential from millions of registered users of India’s most favorite online hangout. The first challenge that encountered me was to establish trust and sincerity for what I was doing. I knew that whatever I was intended to do was never done by anyone else, so it was really tough to make people believe in my work. I thought to find people, approach them and ask for their email ids to conduct an online interview but because of security reasons I many times got rejected and then I thought to get them into Hall of Fame so I could directly take their interviews in the community itself.
The first person who trusted me was a young teenage guy from Madhya Pradesh Vibhor Dube who owns many communities on orkut. The second in list was a girl from Rajasthan who use a nick name Khan Chic and that was my first interview, and probably first like this for her too.
Most of the people don’t know this but today I am revealing it, that this interview was never been published.
After 14 days of creating Orkut’s Hall of Fame I realized its potential and planned to spread all interviews to a wider audience and I made a blog on blogger.com naming it as OrkutHeroes.blogspot.com and from here the journey of orkut heroes started.

April
April was one of the most unforgettable and also one of the most successful months for me when I got tremendous responses from many people and I successfully posted some 14 interviews on my blogger blog, which includes some really good interviews like that of Vipin Gupta IPFC Mod, Navratan Agarwal owner of blood donation community, Henry Mang owner of National Geographic community, Vinayak Nagri a 13 year old blogger, Shyamal Sinha indie thumper bikers ring leader and Sneakerologist owner and mod of many sneakers related community. With all these interviews my confidence increased and I was sure that I can do far better than this one day. I was in no doubt that it will take time so I always kept strong hold of Patience.

May
My wife was a big support for me since beginning and she insisted me to go for a private owned domain instead of hosting a blog on a free site like blogger. I was not certain about registering a domain so early but still I registered flockpost.com and decided to move from blogger to word press for better options and features. On May 2nd I launched OrkutHeroes.com by publishing an interview of one of the most popular person among orkut’s tricks and orkut hacks community, which was Mr. Nobody. His interview still comes in top 10 most viewed and commented interviews on flockpost.com. In the same month I got more golden opportunities when I successfully convinced one very noble, educated and influential personality Dr. T.P. Sasikumar, a scientist and a social worker from Calicut, later Mr Sasi Kumar honored me by adding that interview in his self written book LIFE MADE SIMPLE. I am also thankful to my friend Supriya Tyagi who allowed me to take his interview in this same month; Supriya and I are now very good friends. I got all this in the same month when my birthday falls, Lucky me.
It was the same time when Anukriti Sharma had joined orkutheroes as one of the interviewer, though Anukriti was never so active but she took one very good interview of Alekhya a social worker from an organization SARAAL. I am thankful to Anukriti for her small but effective contribution to orkutheroes.

June
This was the most blessed and lucky month of my life and most inactive month for orkutheroes. That was because I was busy with preparations to welcome a new family member in our life and on 12th June I was blessed with a baby boy. My apologies to my readers for not coming online for more than 14 days but it was obvious for a family oriented person like me. Honestly, no regrets.
Sahiba Puri who joined orkutheroes with Anukriti in May last week helped me in my toughest time to publish some really good write-ups and interviews including an interview of Sanam R Karunakar an animal lover and a professional pet dog behaviourist.

July
Back to work after all celebration of my baby, I tried to roll on more people to Orkut’s Hall of Fame and launched a new blog theme which is still there. A theme called Arthemia! And new logo for OrkutHeroes named “Purple Buddy”. However, this was not so active month but I got some really nice people who helped me in knowing more about the life from their perspective. This month was dedicated to Navin Gulia a social worker, Aamir Edresy leading Muslim professional community and an organization and Michelle Young a very popular and active orkut user and also an astronomer and a writer. I really learned a lot from these personalities and their interview are one among many worth reading interviews on orkutheroes.
I also discovered and interviewed a Brazilian girl Priscilla who owns 841 communities and handle more than 9 million members, I was simply shocked.
Great July!

August
My journey continues with more and more people who touched not only my reader’s heart but also mine. In this month I found one lady who has enlightened the life of many orphans around the world and she is Jennifer Gallagher and now I call her Mamma Jen. Another was an interesting interview of a very fascinating personality that is Vasumathi Sriganesh a medical librarian.
The month was the same when I also introduced a very new and unique service of reviewing best orkut communities in one separate category Community Showcase on orkutheroes. After starting with this the first review was of a community of Indians in Singapore. I knew that I am now going to do two different tasks at the same time. Days were getting tough for me but I like being in tough conditions always.

September
Like every month this month also had something stored in for me which I wasn’t aware of. I got to discern one great man Dr. Kizar Nawaz whose interview reached on most commented post in very few days. Kizar Nawaz is a doctor by profession and also an Islamic Scholar. I also tried to concentrate in show casing more good communities in this month and reviewed many like Books, Pune Eat Outs, and Inspiring Words etc. The most disappointing was reviewing Books because I didn’t receive any response from it which I was expecting. Well, still I am really thankful to the community owner for helping me in getting much information about the community.
September was a mixture of both good and bad experiences; a good experience was interviewing 2 band members of Atheist Karma in an interview and bad was that I really felt that somewhere I lost that grip on questions and then I decided never talk to two guys at same time.
Last but not least was my encounter with world’s most remarkable personality in my view and that was my dear friend Tio…I mean Frank Moore. I knew Frank from many days before approaching him but whenever I see his profile display/avatar I never tried to contact him because of the fear of rejection.

October
In this month I added another new category on orkutheroes blog, i.e., Articles Gallery where I started publishing articles related to orkut social networking, community management and some random social networking associated write-ups. By this, I started receiving more quality readers who now had 3 options that is, interview, community review and articles.
October was also a record breaking month when I met Girish Sharma through my friend Gaurav on orkut. Girish Sharma is a numismatist and a very great personality both online and offline and have the biggest fan following I ever saw for any non-bollywood, non-hollywood or a non-cricketer.
His interview broke two biggest record of most viewed and most commented and is still on top.
In Oct I also reviewed one of the most sacred and spiritual community named Shrimad Bhagawad Gita, It was a challenge for me but God helped me and I also received positive and encouraging remarks from the community owners and moderators.
In this same month I again added one more category of “worth visiting” which I started to write reviews of best blogs and websites I come across my research and exploration of people on orkut. The first review was on a blog AngryIndian .com. This was a new but fantastic experience.

November
Tara joined me from Nov 1st, the biggest help ever and I felt now I have 4 hands. She soon started taking things in her hands and helped me in preparing orkutheroes one of the most new and successful post Top 10 blogs, outshining the rest. This post got hits from all across the World Wide Web and I met some really wonderful friends forever including God Year’s owner Roshan and Surajit Dasgupta.
November was a month which left both good and bad memories in my life. This was the month when I introduced my final category and service and completed orkutheroes blog with 5 categories and newest was Freekaout where I started displaying my own made graphics for scraps books and other uses for free. This was the same month when I and my sister Tara together posted 22 posts which was the highest since I started this blog and this was the same month when our life got changed and we got another new direction and mission for life when we saw Mumbai Terror Attack. We forgot our niche and subject of our blog; we stopped interviewing anyone and started writing day to-day report on terror and its aftermath. We recorded the comments of both Indian and Pakistani orkut users and we published the write-up in the memory of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan which was among few first released articles online.
Yes we received loads of traffic but we were least interested in it because it was the time when as a blogger I felt my true responsibility towards my nation and my people.

December
On 5th December 2008 we published an article, “Orkut staff can you hear me now? Indians against terrorism” where for the first time we mentioned about the negative and destructive use of Orkut as a social networking site and requested the Orkut staff to hear us and the outcome was the deletion of a terrorists community from Orkut named, Lashkar-e-tayyiba. Thanks to orkut for hearing us. This was the same month when I interviewed two interesting personalities who really deserve to be an Hero and an inspiration for others. Abhishek Bhowmick and Devdeep Ahuja’s interview helped orkutheroes in making a great and useful resource in their respective fields.

I am also thankful to those who gave us honor and recommendations especially OrkutPlus, Techgoss, Blakut and Dr TP Sasikumar for his book Life Made Simple. I am thankful to my contributors, friends, family and well-wishers for keeping trust on me.
Last but not least, thanks to all my friends, Aslam Khilji, Irfan Ali, Supriya Tyagi, Rajiv Dutta, Mubarak, Abbas, Darnell Clyton, Kaushik Chemburkar and my biggest asset my Mamma, my lovely and supportive wife Durriya, my sister and editor of orkutheroes Tara and all my well wishers for their outstanding support and encouragement in making orkutheroes one of the best and favorite place after orkut.com
Especial thanks to Orkut.com for bringing out such a superb social network for millions of people like us to get socialize, entertain and learn different things from others.
