2nd Birthday Special: OrkutHeroes is More Than OrkutHeroes
Tomorrow is Orkut Heroes 2nd birthday. Two years back on March 23rd 2008 when I started a blog orkutheroes.blogspot.com (please don’t check it) I was not sure where this will go after a year or two. My only motive was to write about those community owners and moderators who were selflessly committed to their online groups formed inside orkut social network. That time Orkut.com was most popular social network in India and neighboring countries like Pakistan and Iran. Though, I was not aware of the fact that Brazilians ruled on orkut more than anyone.
Before orkutheroes came to a shape as a blog the core concept was already in its semi- functional phase Orkut’s Hall Of Fame was my first orkut community where I used to interview community owners, but I was unsatisfied by the limitation of social network but equally confident about these stories of dedicated community owners of orkut can hit the web world and it would be easier for people searching for such online communities or individuals to connect. Hence a blog named orkutheroes came into its existence.
If you are thinking that what benefit I was expecting for my own by writing/interviewing about orkut communities then let me tell you that I was not interested in orkut as a social network or any particular people nation wise nor I am money minded blogger, I am more a passionate for online community forums since early 2003 when RPG and MMORPG forums were into trend, after joining orkut for first time somewhere in early 2008 I again encountered message boards but with a different look (than those invisionfree and IPB forums), so many niches and the way orkut users were contributing on it. It was a mixture of social networking with message board. I was absolutely thrilled!
After receiving overwhelming responses by orkutheroes blog readers and community owners ( mostly orkut users) I decided to move my blogger blog to a self hosting blog with my own domain flockpost.com. I was still not sure that where orkutheroes will land (nobody knows future) but today after 2 years I see orkutheroes is no more orkut heroes. It is more than what I started; it became one of the most important parts of my life. It became a social media blog writing about every best online community, online groups, individuals, blogs and a guide to social networking enthusiast.
This drastic change was natural because more I started exploring people and groups more I felt bounded with the name Orkut Heroes and my commitment to orkut.com’s users. Sadly but truly, orkut is no more trending now, there are many good and effective social networking platforms and online communities emerged which no internet savvy can ignore. I too cannot overlook those millions of blogging, twitter and facebook communities because online communities are my only online passion. Instead of changing the name of orkutheroes or starting a new blog I decided to be with it till I don’t find any best alternative domain name and I feel that orkutheroes itself is becoming like a brand.
No doubt flockpost.com is and will always remain thankful to Orkut.com for giving this opportunity to me. Because of Orkut, OrkutHeroes exist.
Today I also write about Twitter, Facebook, Google buzz, Blogging and of course Orkut too. Orkut Heroes is following online communities, wherever they are moving and I hope that you liked this change on orkutheroes. If you have any opinion for flockpost.com please comment below and help me to help this mega social media population.
