Why: I Stopped Sharing Tweets On Facebook and Google Buzz Accounts
I was excited with the Facebook’s Twitter application which I reckoned could help me share my tweets via my Facebook updates. Same with my Google Buzz account where I can also share my tweets to my buzz followers. But soon I realized, it was not benefiting me much and, in fact, distressing both my Facebook and Google Buzz friends who didn’t particularly want to see my tweets. I know many of my Twitter friends, whom I am befriended on Facebook and Buzz, use such applications too but they may think differently about it.
I believe we should use all social applications for a specific purpose and audience. Mixing everything does not make any sense.
Here I illustrate 3 points as to why I disallow my tweets to get shared on my Facebook and Google Buzz profiles.
Value

Twitter+ Facebook+ Buzz=? : Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz are designed for different purposes – Both Google Buzz and Facebook are more to engage with friends while Twitter is best for sharing information and resources. However, we can still use them for both (engaging and sharing) purposes but the basic functions will always remain suitable for what they have initially been designed for. It’s like you can use a kitchen knife for chopping vegetables yet you can also slit somebody’s neck with it! Well, the choice is yours!
Confusion

Tweets Above Head: I tweet more than 20 times a day, sometimes even more than 100 times. While my Facebook updates are limited to 2 or three in a day and my Buzz updates are even less than my Facebook. I tweet generally related to my profession while FB (Facebook) updates involve my personal life and my buzz updates are mostly anything I love to discuss deeply. Most importantly, I am quite aware that many of my Facebook and Buzz friends don’t use Twitter and some of them don’t even like it. If I tweet 30 times a day about social media marketing and share them with my social media communities then I may get some new followers on Twitter but might lose some good FB & Buzz friends. Because, unknowingly I could be irritating my non-twitter community with my tweets!
Most of my Google Buzz updates are intended to have quality discussions with friends but if my tweets appear on Buzz page then they could interfere with an ongoing discussion. I now use BuzzCanTweet and TweetDeck to choose what I want to post on Twitter, FB and Buzz or I use Selective Tweets application on Facebook. This helps me keep all of my Google Buzz, Twitter and FB accounts clean and I end up posting quality topics to relevant communities.
Care

Community First: My Twitter community is related to social media marketing and internet professionals while my FB community is full of close friends, like-minded people and relatives. On the other side, my Google Buzz followers are of mix tastes who love talking about International relations, technology, gossips and world news. As a blogger I love to share my blog post with both communities but don’t expect much from my FB community professionally because they may not have anything to do with my profession. However, my Twitter and Google Buzz community loves to read my posts because they are concerned with it. This makes a big difference between all of my communities. Respect your community and serve them with what they want and not with what you like.
How about you? If you got any more ideas and ways to serve your social communities better then please share it with us.
Do You want to turn off your Tweets to get shared on Facebook and Google Buzz? Simply go to your facebook application of twitter and remove this plugin. For Gmail Buzz users, go to your shared websites area on your Google buzz in your gmail inbox and check “connected sites” make twitter private or and “remove twitter“. You are done!
