The above image clearly shows that twitter has recorded 347% change in the mobile usage of its service. Keeping these figures in mind we are presenting you the Best twitter clients that are available for all the three major mobile platforms viz Symbian, Blackberry and iPhone.

Symbian Platform

The Platform which is widely accepted and runs on almost all the NOKIA smartphones in the world. The Top two twitter applications on Symbian are

The above screenshots show Gravity in action. The most notable features include:
Pros:

  • All the functions of twitter viz tweet, retweet, groups, lists, DM, follow, unfollow, search and most importantly auto-update.
  • Auto connect to any of the Access Points you define.
  • Twitter dashboard which includes: Timeline, Replies, Messages, Groups & Lists, Important, Geotagged, My tweets, favourites, friends, followers, drafts
  • Lets you schedule tweets.
  • Post Pictures to Moby Picture, TwitPic, TwitGoo, Flic.kr, Yfrog, img.ly
  • Twitter search with multiple tabs.
  • Bookmark your tweets to de.ico.us and instapaper
  • Forward a tweet via SMS.

Cons:

  • Memory hogger considering the fact that most of the NOKIA devices are very low on RAM.

Go ahead and download the trial version of Gravity and test it yourself, if you like it then show some generousness to its developers by purchasing it, the cost of which is very nominal i.e. $9.75 approx.

P.S. With the Gravity 1.30 alpha version out, support for Facebook, Google Reader and Four Square have been added which makes it better than the best.

This ends our hunt for the best Symbian twitter client here. Moving on, we will take a look at what twitter has got for the iPhone.

iPhone OS

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about iPhone OS:

iPhone OS (known as OS X, OS X iPhone or iPhone OS X in its early history) is a mobile operating system developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the default operating system of the iPhone, the iPod Touch, and the upcoming iPad.

We all know that iPhone is the most popular and most talked about smartphone in the world, much because of his huge AppStore backing. Digging deep into the AppStore we found two of the best Twitter applications which most of the iPhone users use to tweet worldwide.

tweetiei2-logo Tweetie

Tweetie is the most powerful twitter app for the iPhone, iPod touch. The major features include:
Pros:

  • All the twitter functions you can think of including multiple twitter accounts.
  • Caches tweets and even restores your previous twitter sessions when you quit the application.
  • Newly added Offline feature which lets you follow, unfollow, retweet and fav. All the changes will be synced once you are back online.
  • Link twitter accounts with the Address Book contacts.

These were just to mention the few features provided by tweetie. To take full advantage of the app just puchase it from the AppStore at just $2.99.

The second iPhone app which we are going to feature is Twittelator Pro. So here we go

Twittelator Pro

Twittelator Pro is a great twitter application bundled with a huge feature list, it is practically impossible to mention all of its features here but still the most talked about features include:

Pros:

  • Packed with a feature list bigger than any other twitter application.
  • Automatically cteate tweets from other apps on iPhone.
  • Multiple Accounts.
  • Automatically changes your current location.
  • Auto splits tweets greater than 140 chars.
  • Post photos and videos to Posterous, WordPress, yFrog, Pikchur, TwitPic, MobyPicture, twitgoo, TwitLens, TweetPhoto.

Cons:

The major disadvantage of Twittelator Pro is its UI. Not many of us like UI full of lists, and this is the reason why we have not featured this application before Tweetie.

To purchase this app just head to the AppStore, it will cost you a mere $4.99

Blackberry OS

This is what Wikipedia says about Blackberry OS:

BlackBerry OS is the proprietary software platform made by Research In Motion for its BlackBerry line of handhelds. BlackBerry OS provides multi-tasking, and makes heavy use of the device’s specialized input devices, particularly the trackball, trackpad or touchscreen. The OS provides support for MIDP 1.0 and WAP 1.2. Previous versions allowed wireless synchronization with Microsoft Exchange Server’s e-mail and calendar, as well as with Lotus Domino’s e-mail. The current OS 4 provides a subset of MIDP 2.0, and allows complete wireless activation and synchronization with Exchange’s e-mail, calendar, tasks, notes and contacts, and adds support for Novell GroupWise and Lotus Notes when used in conjunction with BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Although being a business smartphone series, Blackberry has really great devices under its sleeves and also a huge fan following. So we started our hunt for the best twitter applications for Blackberry devices and here is what we extracted from our research.

Official Blackberry Twitter Client

Yes, Blackberry is building an official twitter client for its devices which will effectively utilize Blackberry Platform and will allow you to tweet from anywhere.

Some of the really cool features are:

Pros:

  • You can tweet from anywhere which means, while viewing a website, while looking at a photograph, even more you can also tweet a recommendation about any app while in the AppWorld.
  • Icons for all the major twitter functions like tweet, @mentions, user profiles, people search, trending topics, topic search.
  • Filter tweets according to their locations.

Cons:

The App is still in its beta so lacks some of the really basic features like:

  • Lists.
  • Multiple Accounts.
  • Geo-tagging.
  • Profile Editing.

But we can expect these features once the App gets out of Beta stage. For now the download is invitation based, so ask your friends or colleagues for the invitation.

Uber Twitter

Uber twitter is till date the most used twitter clients on the Blackberry Platform. Major features of which include:

Pros:

  • Can handle all the twitter tasks without leaving the application.
  • Location aware.

Thus we end our hunt for the best twitter clients on all the major mobile platforms here. If you know even better clients than those mentioned above or if we have missed out on any of the key features then please do use comments and let the readers know about it.
