Joys And Disappointments On Facebook
A new customer/user is always greeted large than old customers. Facebook is now suggesting pages to its new users with the words like “Connect with you favorite celebrities, business and brands to hear the latest news from them.” This is much similar to Twitter’s Suggested User’s List.
This feature is not available for existing users. It is introduced only for NEW USERS when register their profile for the very first time on facebook. As you enter the word in your preferences, related pages are suggested. Suppose you enter Michael Jackson, pages related to King of Pop will be displayed. On entering Coca Cola the official page of coke and other fan pages or group pages related to it are displayed.
This move has triangular benefits
• Good marketing tool for brands and companies.
• The New User feels comfortable and will prefer and suggest facebook to his friends over any other social networking site.
• Facebook will have enhanced number of users
But Senator Charles Schumer of New York is disappointed with few recent changes and he admits his disappointment by writing a letter to FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and asked them to lay down some privacy guidelines for Facebook and other Social Networking sites. (source)
Senator is troubled by “Instant Personalization Feature” which lets you search the content on third party sites according to your profile information. This creates a fear in the mind of user that his personal information is being transferred to some other website. While Facebook Authorities have assured that this is not like what it appears to be.
By just opt in this feature a filter start working which only displays the information useful to user. This filter doesn’t pass out any of the user’s information. And opt out of this feature is also very simple and quick.
We believe Facebook staff is working to make things easier for us not to make them troublesome. But difference in opinion and communication gap creates some problems which may be washed out in coming times.
