Twitter Acquires Cloudhopper
Twitter has recently announced its acquisition of Cloudhopper, a major firm which has been providing the mobile messaging technology and expertise to businesses in the wireless space.
Twitter has been working with Cloudhopper for the last eight months to become one of the highest volume SMS programs in the world. Twitter has made it easier for users to receive tweets on their mobile by integrating the SMS service. It delivers about a billion SMS tweets per month and that number is growing around the world from Indonesia to Australia, the UK, the US, and beyond.
To help us further grow and scale our SMS service, we are happy to announce the acquisition of Cloudhopper, a messaging infrastructure company that enables Twitter to connect directly to mobile carrier networks in countries all over the planet. Please join us in welcoming both Joe and Kristin to Twitter’s mobile team.
says Kevin Thau (@kevinthau), in his blog post on the official Twitter Blog.
Twitter has emerged as the micro blogging site and has changed the way of communication. Its the “Short Messaging Service” of the web. The SMS service has been the source of inspiration behind 140 characters limit. Twitter believes that this limit has helped maintaining the entirety of the tweet being read either on web or an internet enabled device. This is possibly one of the major reasons of its popularity and effectiveness. Twitter has served with “short” updates to “big” news.
It is interesting to note that this is the fifth acquisition by Twitter: Summiz, Values of n, Mixer Labs and the most recent Atebits have become a part of the Twitter Family. You can find more about Cloudhopper here: http://www.cloudhopper.com/about.php
