170 students studying in different universities of U.S., Canada, Europe, Middle East and Africa will be awarded Anita Borg Scholarship by Google this year plus these fortunate students will also get chance to visit the office and meet some of Internet universe’s big guns.

Google runs about 10 scholarship programs out of which 3 are travel scholarships as mentioned below, to encourage women and minorities into fields of computing and technology. The Anita Borg Scholarship program was started in 2004 to honor the legacy of Late Anita Borg and her efforts to encourage women to pursue careers in computer science and technology. In its seventh year this program continues to support under and post-graduate women completing degrees in computer science and related areas, recognizing and encouraging the next generation of technical leaders and role models.

This year 62 scholars and finalists in the U.S., 17 in Canada and 91 in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa will be benefited by this program economically. These scholars are really lucky and fortunate because under this special program they will be visiting the Google office, networking retreats featuring workshops, speakers, panelists, breakout sessions and social activities in an all expenses paid trip as the guests of honor.

Google will be extending this program to students in Sub-Saharan Africa and to high school seniors in the U.S. and in the later months of the year it is proposed to cover Asia also.

People reading this post in Australia and New Zealand should cheer themselves up as the names for eligible students of these countries are yet to be announced and it is quite possible person sitting next to the screen reading these lines could be one of the students to experience it alive.
