Social Media: Future of News
We covered the story few days back, how dissatisfied Americans are Praying for President Obama’s Death on Facebook. But the President is highly impressed by the reach, impact and popularity of Social Media.
In a dinner organized in White House for journalists, Obama spoke high words for social media sites:- ‘But even though the mainstream press gives me a hard time, I hear that I’m still pretty big on Twitter, Facebook … or as Sarah Palin calls it, the socialized media.’(source here)
Because of social media print media has suffered a lot in U.S.A. Journalists approached Mr. President to help them as he had extended help to Banking industry and Automobile Industry. Obama was like a savior for GM and Chrysler. But he mocked that he is just a president not a miracle worker.
Obama has optimistic views for online news and offline too: ‘For all the changes and challenges facing your industry, this country absolutely needs a healthy, vibrant media. Probably needs it more than ever now. Today’s technology has made it possible for us to get our news and information from a growing range of sources; we can pick and choose not only our preferred type of media but also our preferred perspective. And while that exposes us to an unprecedented array of opinions, analysis and points of view, it also makes it that much more important that we’re all operating on a common baseline of facts … every single reporter in this room believes deeply in the enterprise of journalism.”
These words clearly show that social media’s influence and potential is far more better then conventional media. In the coming years role of social media will be playing a major role in all spheres of life like work, entertainment, education, information and news, may be in Political Decisions also.
