Add Maps in Your Orkut Scraps

by Aditya Joshi on May 5, 2010

Suppose you met a new friend on Orkut who lives in your city itself and you ask her to come down to a newly opened restaurant, but she makes an excuse by saying that she has no idea where this new restaurant is, you try to give her directions via scraps or on the phone and find, this is also not working for you. Rather then throwing your arms in vain and frustration let your fingers do the walking on Orkut.

After the successful addition of  “add photo” feature in orkut scraps. Orkut now brings you the facility of adding maps in your scraps. Cheer up; no more silly excuses are left with your friend to decline your invitation of dinner.

Adding maps in scraps is very simple but this feature only works in New Orkut.

Just go to scrapbook and click in text window. Write your message. Select the red placemark icon from the top customization options.

Now if your selected destination is already in Google maps you can just type the name of the place and city,  a placemark will be shown on the map.

If your destination is not entered in Google maps you can select the place and drop a placemark manually. After finishing with this just click on the select button (as shown in the above picture) and your map will be inserted in the scrap, now you are ready to post the scrap.

Google maps are shown in 3 different layouts.

First one is a simple map just like and ordinary road map with drawings and names of streets and buildings.

Second one is satellite map which is just like the view of Google earth without any names in it.

And third is hybrid map which is like a mix up of both simple map and satellite map. In other words we can say hybrid is a like a satellite map with names of streets and buildings in it.

If the map is clicked, it loads the Google Maps page for that same spot, so your friend can further explore the area, check Street View photos, and even find public transit, driving or biking directions to get there.
