A.R Rahman’s craziest fans on Orkut.

by zazo on January 28, 2009

What is the divergence in movies made in west, Europe and India? Action, Emotions, Love or Romance? Nothing in the list above, the sole thing which draws a very big line of difference between Indian and western movies is Music. Without Music every movie made in India is called as and incomplete movie. The Indian music which is largely demanded by not only Indian audiences but also very much popular in south-east Asia and Indian sub-continent is beautiful combination of traditional, cultural and indo-western tracks. The flamboyant industry of cinema in India also known as Bollywood has a big hand of musicians making the film more gripping and fascinating.

Among hundreds of musicians, composers, lyricists and singers of Bollywood, there are only few who made their name for their unique composition and art of music. One such shimmering name is A.R. Rahman, who started from his home’s backyard and made it to the international stage of Oscars. A.R Rahman’s success story took off in the year 1991 when he initiated his own company of music recording. A.R Rahman whose full name is Allah Rakhha Rahman is the hottest favorite of world cinema today after his recent British drama hit Slum Dog Millionaire which is based on Mumbai slums and is being shot in India. AR Rahman was the music director of Slum Dog Millionaire.

A.R. Rahman won the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and three Academy Award Nominations for original score and original song. This success does not came his way in a span of night or by mere luck, Rahman deserves it because of what he is and millions of his fans around the globe are definitely another big reason for this glory.

OrkutHeroes tries to find out what’s going on these days with A.R. Rahman fans on orkut? How are the celebrations? How joyful they are? And the fallout was amazing. We found number of communities of fans dedicated to A.R. Rahman but chose only two big communities with more than 100,000 members discussing on their idol and Rahman’s coming up projects.

We asked their views in form of three simple questions, which are

1. What do you think about A.R Rahman?

2. Is that because of his music you became his fan?

3. How was Slum dog Millionaire?

Here are few of the reactions we got to see from die hard Rahman’s Fans:

Sathya is from Tamil Nadu and is pursuing his education in Engineering. He answered our questions through email, here are the details:

Like how Rahman sir thinks music, music, music all the way, we think about Rahman sir, Rahman sir n Rahman sir’s music and humbleness all the time. Every second of our lifetime. He’s truly inspired our soul right from his very first album, Roja..He showed us how heaven will look like through his music, he showed the way to come up in life when you are down, through his music and his own life and what more to say about him. He’s our soul stirring inspiration, to say the least..We love him more than we love ourselves..!

I would put it this way, “I have become a fan of him because of ARR’s music“.I may sound crazy, but I wonder a man will be so humble even after getting 22 filmfares,4 national awards, golden globe award,3 Oscar nominations and a lot more. I bet none would have been so humble and kind..His music combined with this character that sir has got made me his fan..So it’s because of ARR’s music, I became his fan and not only through his music..His soul combined with his soul stirring music made me his fan.

Wonder if SDM can pull off Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, this man would well have got Oscar very early, though not taking anything away from Slum dog. Thanks to Danny Boyle for this collaboration, we’re very happy to see boss in international arena among the biggies. Coming to SDM, the way the movie has been shot with a racy screenplay and the rages-to-riches story has made this film a huge hit, no wonder westerners are going gaga about this film’s music.Rightly so, “Jai Ho”(the most celebrated track by the west currently) and “oh..saya”(outta world stuff by bringing in the sound of railway track through drums) have been nominated to Oscars..And we sincerely hope and pray that boss will pull an Oscar off… Congrats for GG and Oscar nominations sir, we are sure that you’ll bring two Oscars to India. JAI HO ARR! We love you forever and always!

Raghav KVK a student and a very active member of A.R. Rahman Fan club on Orkut, from Hyderabad mailed his answers.

Well, I think A.R.Rahman is a phenomenon and a revelation in the field of music. More as a musician, he is closer to my heart as a human being. His creative ways of taking the music closer to a listener are simply outstanding. His penchant towards producing a different sound every time he composes a soundtrack is incredible. The way Rahman is blending his music with different genres since Roja is simply breathtaking and quite amazing. That indeed makes a striking difference between him and other composers who are into producing some strident sounds. And as the notion says, the change is only about moving forward…one has to move forward adapting to the styles of the current time-frame one is living in without being able to forget one’s moolah! It applies universally, be it an A.R.Rahman, and be it a Raghav or anyone else. Rahman has instigated various styles of music in him according to the changes and he is making his music move forward with them and along with it, he is transcending places.

I think a person can’t become an idol to so many just by his work. There’s no doubting that A.R.Rahman is a sheer brilliance in the field of music but that alone doesn’t attract the people towards him. I feel that Rahman as a human being is probably one of the rare finds with so many qualities like humbleness, dignity, spirituality, diligence, intuitiveness imbibed into a single person. That actually made, at least me, a great fan to him.

To be frank, I haven’t watched SDM but the score of the film has definitely got an international appeal for which the awards are raining on it. It’s completely novel and fresh with a sound probably heard never before with a fusion of the Indian sound with the western notes.

Sreekrishnan hails from Thiruvananthapuram and is a Sound Engineer.

If you want to describe A.R Rahman in two words: ‘Our Inspiration’.

Our inspiration to be a good human being.
Our inspiration to enjoy quality music.
Our inspiration to explore difficult things.
Our inspiration to be humble when world praise you.
Our inspiration to stand against poverty.
Our inspiration to love each ‘n every creatures.
Our inspiration to believe in ourselves.
Our inspiration to experiment new things in life.
And ultimately Our inspiration to believe in the Almighty God. To offer Daily Prayers! And for me alone, he’s the Reason of my Life. I’m what I’m today is because of this man, Allah Rakhha Rahman.
Thanking him for this LIFE, in each and every breath of mine. Talking about Slum Dog Millionaire… again just two words to describe the whole soundtrack: PURE FUSION and it is at its Best!

Spread Rahmanism, Spread Peace n Happiness!

After talking individually to many Rahman’s fans we thought to look at those communities where we discovered many more “Rahamaniacs “the term they proudly use in their orkut profiles. One such person is Santosh Kumar, by looking at his profile, he looks like any other teenage guy but his passion for AR Rahman is simply great. Santosh has penned down some 8 self written poetries dedicated to AR Rahman and posted in the community A R Rahman’s fans which is orkut’s biggest community for Rahmaniacs containing more than 500,000 members. Here are the excerpts of Santosh’s one of the poem dedicated to AR Rahman:

One whose ‘Music-fire’ catches everywhere,
His Vestige of vice is found nowhere.
One who sings with pride “Maa tujhe Salaam”,
He is none other than A.R Rahman.

He is the Sun: whose rays enlighten us,
Not only his music, but all his good stuffs.
This King of Virtuoso brings us Charm,
Thanks for everything, Allah Rakha Rahman.

Everyone say “He’s Mozart in Disguise”,
whose fame always Rise, Rise and Rise!
But I firmly say “He is The God,
to worship and follow him, my sacred job.”

He creates every note with great Dedication,
and then designs them as a master Craftsman.
His every sweat turns into gold then,
Oh! What a soothing music he gives-He is the Gem.

He heals everyone, thus he is a GOD,
He steals every heart, and thus he is a Superstar.
He says “Vande Mataram”, thus he is a Patriot,
Thanks again for all, our dear ARR!!

The community is full of one talk, A R Rahman and nothing else, from Rahman’s first composition on Roja to Slum Dog Millionaire to Rahman’s wallpapers, news, updates, concerts and many more related talks and discussions. Rahmaniacs never get tired talking about their icon.

Another such community of Rahman’s Fans which has, more then 100,000 members is another virtual place for these fans to chant about their idol, to talk about him, discuss how to live like him, what gadgets Rahman personally uses, etc. They pray for Rahman each day, talk about his work other then music. Reviewing his music and talking about his latest productions are obviously a part and parcel here as well.

Looking at all these activities, our team was surprised, because these fans do not treat their hero as human but far more then that. For them this artist has taught them to live, to love and to spread peace all around. It’s amazing to see people following a living legend this way and following his footsteps to make this world a happy place and the best way they have got is this virtual home of social networking where they have got millions like them and now they feel they are all one family.

Well we too pray for this legend to go a long way and applause for these fans to spread such positive vibes all around in the present time of malice and brutality in the world!, addition to this AR Rahman and his fans are peace messengers and if you have doubt on this than you should visit these Rahamaniacs and their communities on Orkut.
