He has these qualities of being equally good at music and academics in his genes. Sameep has done a number of concerts and shows and has been a part of a tough yet prestigious and glorious journey of 19 long years, which is on going and has to reach miles.

Orkutheroes, caught him on social networking site of Orkut. Here is an interesting conversation with this promising Sitarist:

Sameep, tell us about yourself, your childhood, and family background. How your journey started?

I am born in a musical family. All members in my family are devoted to academics and music. My father is a mathematicians and a violinist. My mother is a PhD, science teacher and a vocalist. My sister is a professional international artist – a vocalist. I have completed my engineering with distinction in instrumentation and control from V.I.T. College, Pune and now working as a Senior Software Engineer in Coreobjects software for last 5 years. (www.coreobjects.com)

How my journey in music started:

I started learning tabla at the age of 6 and one year later I heard the sitar by Ustad Vilayat Khan and fell in love with the instrument, so I told my parents that I want to learn sitar. So I started learning sitar at the age of 7 under Ustad Usman Khan in Pune. He nurtured the sitar skills in me for 13 years. Then I heard Ustad Shahid Parvez in a live concert and was attracted immensely by his style. So since then I am learning under him for last 6 years. I did my first concert at the age of 8, since then I have been doing concerts for last 18 years continuously. I also did learn tabla for 12 years in parallel with sitar, but now only concentrating on sitar and have left the tabla completely.

Along with a well known and successful Sitarist, you are also a senior software engineer. This is an unusual yet great combination. Wasn’t managing balance between these two entirely different streams difficult? What guidelines did you follow and managed to achieve victory in both these fields?

Yes, managing the balance between these two streams is extremely difficult. I do have to sacrifice many things to achieve my goal in life. I work in my office for the whole day in embedded software applications and then I go home and practice sitar from 9 pm to 2 am daily J and I do concerts on weekends when I have holiday from my office.

I have performed in more than 500 concerts up till now. I don’t get time for outing, seeing movies, attending family functions etc. much but I utilize the time I get in best possible way. I do devote the whole time in my life either for software field or sitar.

That’s why I have been called as “The Software Sitarist”, “The Corporate Artist” and “The Mathematical Musician” I manage this Herculean task by being very punctual and by completing everything with sincerity, concentration and devotion.

Is music simply a hobby for you, which you do in spare time for self satisfaction or it’s the central area of work in your life? Is it a passion for you?

Music is a passion for me. I don’t consider it as a profession or a hobby. It’s a life for me. Whatever time I get, I devote it to music. I get immense satisfaction in doing live concerts everywhere, meeting and working with different musicians and artists.

When did you realized, that fame is coming your way and did it affected you in any way? According to you, does it change the entire personality or only one’s living style?

Actually even though it feels nice to get the fame, it’s never the goal for me. My aim has always been to perform in the live concerts and spread the awareness of music in the world and also to enrich the lives of people with the music, the best gift to the mankind.

But to be honest, fame doesn’t change a bit of a person in me. I am always a simple guy next door living normal and simple lifestyle. I always believe in being a humble person.

Did this journey of reaching people through your music, give you tough times? If yes, what were they and how did you managed to come out of it?

Yes, always there have been tough times I have experienced in my musical career. The lives of musicians are always full of surprises and contain the maximum ups and downs. The artists always experience the maximum sorrow and maximum happiness in life. The life of artists is never very straight and smooth J I did overcome the tough times in my career by being mentally tough, being more patient and with immense hard work…

Since you started, till this date, what was your best moment, or the most memorable event, that you will like to cherish throughout your life and why?

I have performed in numerous concerts till now. But last year my concert was been organized in Ahmednagar, a city in Maharashtra. I knew previously that concert is going to be huge but when I reached the venue and went on the stage, I could see total 50,000 people were in the audience. The concert was organized on a sports ground with people sitting on the ground and in the stands and some people on trees to get to see the concert. This was the biggest concert I ever did. All people were clapping, whistling and encouraging me for the concert.

You can see the live video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Nrru2e6Yk

I can never forget that moment in my life. Life is not about how many breaths you take but it’s all about how moments take your breath away. That was the most memorable concert.

Also, I performed in a Cancer hospital where all the people in the audience were the last stage cancer patients. They were lying on the cots and some were really critically ill, but they were enjoying the concert. I was touched to know that not a single person in the audience will be alive for my next concert there. It was very touchy and memorable experience for me.

What is your ultimate aim or goal for life?

To be a topmost and very successful ‘Software Sitarist’ / ‘Corporate Artist’ / ‘Mathematical Musician’ in the world.

In today’s time, when the face of music has changed and is eventually changing more, how do you feel about this change? Where do you see it going in the coming time?

Yes, a lotttttt of changes are happening in music now a day. It’s the era of the globalization. Different cultures are coming closer and closer and due to that different types of music are getting closer and closer. Each genre of the music in the world has the effect of the other genre of the music. Like, classical has effect of fusion music, pop music has effect of rock, fusion music has effect of pop and the cycle is continuing People are getting exposed to *all* genres of music and people are seeming to enjoy all kinds of music.

I feel that there will be a time in future that it will be a mix of genres of music. There won’t be boundaries of any genre. I mean any kind of music will be mix of all genres.

I would say to it as “GLOBALIZATION IN THE MUSIC”

Do you think, the struggling musicians, who want to become famous, earn and do something great in the field can have a real bright future? What message or tips will you like to give them?

The struggling musicians who do a lot hard work, who undergo pain but still continue their goals with the same enthusiasm and who have great patience can really have the bright future. I would like to give them the message that, ‘keep on working hard with the constant enthusiasm and high amount of patience’.

What has been the driving force and true motivation for you through out?

To be honest my driving force is the goal set by myself to achieve my dreams. Unless you set the goal and see the dreams to achieve it and work hard for it, nothing can happen!!!

Is there someone you look up to, as your role model?

Yes, The world renowned international musician and my guru Ustad Shahid Parvez

If given a chance to change any three things in the present world of music, what will you like to change?

I would like to see a dedicated 24 hours TV channel for Indian Classical Music.

I would like to see Indian government taking the steps to compulsorily have the subject of Indian music in the schools.

I would like Indian government to take special steps to help the young musicians by arranging more number of Youth festivals of Indian Classical Music to make sure that Indian culture is been transferred to the next generation

26/11/2008 was one of the most horrifying night in the history, for India and its people when a handful of beasts entered our place and ruined it in a way which not only wounded our people’s body and mind but our heart and soul as well.

Out of all those heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their life for saving ours on the fatal night, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was among those brave commandos who launched an assault operation in Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai, one of the seized locations by terrorist. Major Sandeep bravely kissed the martyrdom, fighting bravely, saving the other commandos and the fellow civilians. This brave son of India was born on March 15th 1977, and his martyrdom raised a flame of anger against terrorism, the flame of hope to make India united and powerful, a flame to fulfill his dreams and do not let his and many brave soldiers martyrdom go in vain.

As the night snatched away country’s sleep and peace, some young Indians made an online community on Orkut in honor of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The very community, started with a few and has now reached at a membership of around 1600 plus members, and is proud with the fact that, father of Major Sandeep, Mr.K.UnniKrishnan, is also a part of them now. This community of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan which is the biggest, official and most genuine community of its kind on orkut is all set and determined to reach its goal and accomplish its mission of making India once again a serene place to dwell where the citizens are all united, and strong despite of any caste, religion, color and belief.

On its way towards this mission, the very first and biggest event of this community has arrived, and it’s the Big Day for them, when it’s the 32nd Birthday of the Nation’s Hero, Shaheed Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. This online community has members from all fields of life, of all ages and of different places in India as well as outside the country. The community has gone through tough phases as any of the successful communities go through and still heads at the top with all members full of fervor, and zeal to work and contribute in any little possible way they could, for their nation and the martyrs.

Graphic by: Devdeep Ahuja

There are a number of activities done by this community till date, but I am not talking about them here, as the event of Major Sandeep’s Birthday has so much in it to write about , that the other activities won’t find a place in this article. The preparations of celebrating Major Sandeep’s Birthday started weeks before. There have been several competitions held, like, MSU Birthday Poetry Contest, MSU Birthday Poster making competition. And the creations done by the members are awesome and lack words to appreciate. Many of them came up with beautiful and soulful posters and poetry with heart warming messages. Its been decided that the best poster will be framed and presented to Major’s parents in Bangalore by Anurag Chaturvedi, a member, on behalf of the community as a token of love and respect on their brave son’s birthday and convey to them , that their son is not forgotten and would never be.

The community showed the feeling of ecstasy and pride on his birthday by changing their official display picture, wishing Major Sandeep a happy birthday. There is another thread in the forum which says, “Plan on MSU Birthday- Changing DP” and it’s difficult to express in words how the community is looking when most of the members have picture of Major Sandeep as their display picture in his honor and wishing him on his birthday. Lined up in the forum are more threads, with one or the other way of celebrating the birthday like, “Wishes for our hero Major Sandeep”, “What’s your plan on MSU Birthday”, “[Birthday Special] Be with us on March 15th “Online” where all the members of the community will be getting online on yahoo messenger at a decided time, i.e. 11.00 a.m. (IST), making merry all together.

Apart from celebrations online, the community is also making best efforts for doing things offline. One of the members of the community, Rakesh Bhamare from Nashik, initiated the work and in true sense made the community feel proud. He celebrated in a grand manner with his friends at Niradhan Balsangopan orphan Home at Pune.

They followed the custom of cutting a huge birthday cake and then distributing food, ice creams and had fun playing with those lovely kids, painting, drawing and then dispensing small gifts like color pen, crayons and games etc, simply to bring a smile on those beautiful faces. The community members are waiting eagerly for the day to come, because there is another event lined up in the way to be organized, by Aditi Nandhu from Chennai, another active member of the community. She will also visit an orphanage, BABA Gurukulam, which has 105 children and 25 old age people, on behalf of the community on 15th March. The community has planned for at least managing a nice lunch for all of them. The members are all geared up and are praying for Aditi and wishing her luck to make this event a success. The community has planned to go for a newspaper article on the occasion, giving messages and wishes to Major Sandeep on his Birthday and letting the entire nation know about it. The charge of this activity is taken over by Vrinda Bajaj, a senior member of the community from Delhi.

Talking about all this may sound unusual to some people, but, the community is living this great elation each moment of their lives. For them, Birthday of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan is a matter of great pleasure, far more and above their own birthdays. Biju Krishnan, one of the most sincere members of the MSU community from UK, has been really enthusiastic about the upcoming birthday of MSU. He compiled a video of all the posters from the poster competition held in the community with songs that make us feel the warmth as if MSU is alive and smiling with us.

A birthday wish from Abhishek Tiwari, a keen young member of MSUOC, is, “hello sir, I know you are still with us in form of our inspiration because, I believe if you were not with us we would not have achieved what we have done little bit till now. It does all because of your blessings sir .I wanna wish you a very very HAPPY B’DAY! I promise you we will always continue on the path you showed us and always be ready to give 100% for my country and continue the good work for my motherland.”

Other active members like Kishore, Devdeep, Sneha, Saniya, Anil, and many more are all walking with hands together and heads high waiting for the good to happen as decided.

The MSU community is breathlessly waiting for the great day to come so that all of the members may pay their highest tribute to this Martyr, on his 31st Birthday.

We at Orkutheroes have always tried to bring in front the great deeds being done in the virtual space of Orkut through such online communities, so it was hard to resist writing about this great and praise worthy endeavor made by the member of MSU community.

Our only message to the departed soul of Major Sandeep on his Birthday is. “Long Live Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan!”

Post Updated( March 15th 2009) : The picture below is Mr & Mrs Unnikrishnan with two of the orkut community of Major Sandeep respresnetatives and active members Anurag Chaturvedi and Bikash Kumar presenting a graphic poster on behalf of the community created on occassion of Major Sandeep’s Birthday

Compiled and Edited by : Tara

We are social beings and live in a society where we come across so many social values which we have to respect and follow to maintain a discipline and dignity in the society. And we all know that it doubles the accountability if you are a woman, and then if you are an Indian Woman, as Indian women are expected highly to keep up the social values, follow the traditions, culture and strictly trail the norms laid by the society for them since ages.

We heard about the recent Mangalore incident where woman were given bashing and were brutally given a complete inhuman treatment. We talk about the dignity and moral values, but where does an activity like man beating woman in public comes under the limit of decorum?

Today is Valentines Day, but instead of spreading love all around and celebrating the festival of love, people and specially woman are so much insecure and are living with a fear in our country. There came up organizations which raised their voice against such shameless and merciless actions. But we wanted to know, what a woman sitting in her home, office, or in a coffee shop with a friend is going through and what she thinks about this. What are her message towards all those people and what does she wants?

Orkutheroes tries to find out and take opinion from women on social networking site of Orkut and got a warm response from many.

Few of those views are added here to clear the picture of thinking and mental status of an Indian woman on this special day of celebrating love, known as Valentines Day!

We asked each one of them two question, which were:

Do you think its right to label the Valentine’s Day celebration as disgraceful and its celebration is against the Indian culture and that should be stopped?

What message do you have to give this year to all those who are opposing it?

Here are some of the numerous views we got:

Roop Durgapal, Assistant Media Marketing Manager, Noida:

I feel that culture is nothing but a way of living, which is supposed to be an individual’s choice. Valentine’s Day is a day of celebrating love (not only among the couples, but it could be any form of love). It is absurd to oppose any body’s way of living & especially when it is about celebrating the most beautiful feeling on earth. The lovers should just keep one thing in mind that, a level of decency should always be maintained.

I really don’t have a message for anybody who opposes Valentine’s day, as I feel everyone has got a point of view over a thing & nobody can change it unless the people understand it themselves & for that they need to be educated about the REAL & SERIOUS ISSUES prevailing in our country which need to be addressed like, population control, lack of education, Unemployment, atrocities on women etc. Rather than stopping people from expressing their love, which they would do any how, such people should be told to put their energies towards construction of a good society by trying to remove the issues mentioned above.

…………………….

Sanobar Sultana, Producer and Presenter, Chennai live 104.8 fm, Chennai:

Try googling the term Indian culture, after ten pages of reading you will realize that it’s impossible to define it. There is so much contradiction here, kamasutra’, Sati, Indra Nooyi , Sarika shah, Kalpana Chawla everything can happen in India. Valentine’s Day, friendship day, Halloween according to me is nothing but events /days which we have adopted from the west. We are giving more importance to it and helping it become a national event. It has already achieved great momentum. Thanks to Ram Sene youngsters, going out of their way to make this Valentine’s Day a grand success. Honestly, I have no issues with any event or any day as long as it does not affect the mental peace of anyone and does not hinder the progress of this country.

There are bigger issues in hand for instance the little Dalit girl whose ponytails were yanked where was Ram Sene, then? What about the countless men who molest women everyday on buses, trains and offices? Ram sene and company should be posted there every day. How often do these so called protectors of Indian culture have protected the lady next door when she is slapped by her husband? Here is my message to you any land which has disrespected women has never progressed, history will tell you.

…………………….

 Anu Saxena, Rudrapur, India:

Well, as I believe that love don’t want any special day to say some thing to the person. But now there is one tendency or you can say a thinking among youngsters that in this special day we can say our heart line to that special person. Somewhere person becomes more courageous to say something and I feel that he/she should say the feeling to their loved ones in spite of not saying. But the youngsters, who are crossing the limits, should get punished. Because crossing of limit of anything is bad. But, one has the right to say the feeling in a very descent way.

…………………….

Krupa Raj, Fremont, California:

As a liberal woman and a sensible human being, I find that all the hoopla about Valentine’s Day harming our culture laughable. A culture gets richer and deeper by moving with the times and being open to new customs. Just as it’s wrong to force people to follow something they don’t care for…it’s wrong to obstruct people from celebrating something they care about.
And it’s not as if expression of love was not a part of our culture. We have celebrated the love of Radha and Krishna, Meera’s longing for Krishna, Seetha’s devotion to Rama and the love and understanding of Shiva and Parvathi. Now, its time to celebrate the love of the common man.

No I do not think so, this day means expressing love and it can be related to your family including your husband and father and every member of your family. I wish Valentines Day to my sister, my brother and my friends. It should not be stopped. We should try to improve the image of this day in India that it’s not only boyfriend and girlfriend thing…love involves every one….family to boyfriend, so stop promoting it as boyfriend and girlfriend day.
We all are bound through love and we should spread love massages and valentine day is excellent opportunity. So try to improve its image as family love in hand with intense love of lovers……leave ego and hate behind and celebrate it.

I don’t have much knowledge about Indian culture. I think each one of us grow with different values and point of view…every body posses a different opinion…for me it is nothing wrong….I think it should not be stopped. Those who don’t like to celebrate it, can sit at there home and let other people enjoy because opposing by or through rallies or in any other way will not help if they want to prove their point of view right. There are many other ways other than violence.

Please don’t try to impose what you feel on people. If you think you’re right, try to make people understand and that can’t be done through unwanted banning of a universally celebrated day.

…………………….

Bulu Pattanaik is not any movie star or any red carpet celebrity but not even less than a young sparkling star of a place which needs Bulu and his services and dedication for his home land Orissa, one of the culturally rich states of India. Bulu Pattanaik at the young age of 26 took the responsibility to change the picture of Orissa and get back that honor which is lost somewhere in the history of this traditional Indian state.

We caught Bulu on orkut and the first thing which caught our attention was the list of testimonials written by Bulu’s fans, friends and followers, about his work on his websites fullorissa and purionline. We decided to honor this hero of Orissa on OrkutHeroes and had an online interview. Take your time to inspire by Bulu Pattanaik the emerging star of Orissa.

Interview taken by Tara:

Bulu, please tell us about your childhood, parents, education etc. In short, your biography.

I am an ordinary person, who always likes to enjoy life in all circumstances. I enjoyed my childhood very much. I have a good number of childhood friends, who are still with me. They are my great assets. My parents are always a source of great inspiration for me. My native place is Puri, the sacred place of India. I am one of strong believers of Lord Jagnath. I am what today it is because of His blessing. I did my schooling from The Convent school of Puri, and then did my Bachelor in Commerce from SCS College Puri.

In the year 2003 I started Purionline.com at Puri, and later in the mid of the year I went to Hyderabad, There I worked for 3 yrs with few web development companies, and from internet I tried to have lots of technical ideas on the web technologies, learn them all by myself. I use to contribute at least 3 hrs a day for Purionline.com to update the site.

Then in the year 2006 I got Puri Online Pvt. Ltd. Registered and www.Purionline.com got its own infrastructure at Hyderabad, I am the CEO of the company. After that in the year 2007 I was the VP of Kanvy Technologies Hyderabad, it’s a web solutions company where we provide solutions to many national and international clients.

Movie on Lord Sri Jagannath. This would basically be the first movie from Orissa to be released through out the world. So at present I am at Orissa working on the same. This year – 2009, I am starting up a new company at Hyderabad, its Kanvy Sutdios, Still I am working on it. Basically Kanvy Studios is an Animation Company; it would also have DFX audio studios in it… We are going to work on Animation movies. So this year we are going to release our first movie, it’s an animated

So that’s in short my biography but other then this I do a lot of other things…

As every child dreams to become something which attracts or interests him, what were your dreams?

Oh! dreams yes true that all of us has dreams.

When I was in 7th standard, my teachers very often asked me about my ambition in life. Believe me it was the toughest question that I have ever faced. I heard my friends talking about being an engineer, doctors, professors and so on… and I would just look at their faces, confused about everything, I never knew what an engineer did or a doctor or professor for that matter I was really scared of that question until I was in college, because I was confused, confused about what my ambition should be. People told me that I should have and ambition else I wouldn’t know where I would like to go, and wouldn’t know where I went. However I always had a dream. Just a dream to do and achieve something big. As time passed I realized that I want to do something for my dear state Orissa. Sounds like a very common dream, doesn’t it? Lots of people for sure think or plan to do something for their mother land or for their people.

What’s unique about my dream?

There was something. Most people dream when they sleep. My dream never let me sleep through nights. Today I have only one single dream in my life to see Orissa at a better place, and I just want to contribute to that grandeur. I am confident that I am going to convert this dream of mine into reality.

What are your hobbies, interests and fascinations?

I have some really great friends and whenever I find time I love to spent quality time with them. They are my inspiration and my tear leaders. Whatever I have learn in my life I am extremely used to self learning, so I take great interest in learning whatever I can to keep up with technology and anything that would help my organization to grow further. Orissa as a state fascinates me a lot, each stone each brick each dust

particle has legends associated with it. I love to devour whatever I can, whenever I can. So yes I love to read a lot about Orissa. It’s History; it’s mythology etc whatever is associated with it.

Orissa, the state where you belong, have a rich heritage preserved till now, however it comes in the list of one of the economically backward states of India. What are the reasons of this backwardness and what are the ways to solve the problems related to education and jobs in Orissa? your suggestions?

I do admit with deep regret that Orissa is one of the backward states in India. I don’t dispute. Various reports prove it. The reasons for backwardness are enormous. Of all, I believe slow pace of industrialization is the major one. However, the scenario will change very soon. The state is steadily progressing in all fronts. The state is now the most favored destination for investment. A good number of business tycoons have lined up to start their business in the state. It is a positive indication.

The state is very rich in human resources. Orissa is a land of creative people. And there is no substitution to creative brains. The literacy rate is increasing over the years. More encouragingly, the number of engineering colleges has increased in recent years. The state has now an IIT. I am sure Orissa will create a pool of talented human resources, which will immensely benefit the economic development of the state.

Tell us about your web portals Purionline.com and fullorissa.com. What are the objectives of these websites? And how did you got an idea to start such online services? Is this your full time profession or you do something else as well?

Well one evening in the year 2003 my cousin Rakesh and I were sitting on the Puri sea shore and this Idea of starting something for Puri struck us both quite suddenly, we pulled in some ideas about starting a web portal on Puri.

The very next day we got the domain www.Purionline.com registered from a hosting provider. Our motto was to update this portal everyday and we tried our best to do so. Initially it was a website that provided information about the land of Lord Jagannath – Puri. Eventually I went to Hyderabad and met a huge community of Oriya people living outside of Orissa. I realized how keen people are to know about their home town when they are abroad. I received lots of request from the visitors of Purionline.com requesting me to update the site about Orissa. So Rakesh and I planned and upgraded the website.

By the year 2004 Purionline.com turned into an “Orissa” portal, with lots of information about Orissa. Then we started including content that people needed and asked for. So basically www.Purionline.com had content that its visitors requested. And that is what made the audience love the website.

In 2006 our audience requested to do something about the portals name. The portals name was somewhat specific to Puri, while the website content was about the whole of Orissa. It was such a mismatch. That made me started thinking yeah the name should be something catchy and should at the same time talk about Orissa from the domain name itself. So we got www.fullorissa.com registered. At that time, www.fullorissa.com had the same content as www.Purionline.com I just had the visitors redirected from Purionline to fullorissa.

And now we have the two web sites separated. Purionline has content related to Puri. And Fullorissa has content related to whole of Orissa.

It has about 30 services related to Orissa, starting from news to views to entertainment. We are also the web partner for most of the movies from the Oriya Movie Industry. We have an online community called as the “Oriya Khatti” which is a very similar application to Orkut but fully dedicated to Orissa. It has blogs, video sharing, chatting, forums, photo sharing and other facilities that entertains our users and helps them to stay connected with their Oriya friends and relatives across the globe.

According to Alexa Review fullorissa.com is the highest visited web portal of Orissa.

Initially we just had 40 – 50 views per month in Feb 2003 and by end of 2003 the number of visitors short up to about 2000 – 3000 views per month. Now the number is about a million per month. So that was the route line for the portal.

Any future plans to enhance these portals? You know, there is tough competition and lots of such portals related to Orissa already exist.

This portal definitely has a lot of future plans and I am constantly working on them. It’s a continuous plan. And at the end of the day I just wanted to find Fullorissa.com occupied with each and every possible online service related to Orissa.

And let me say something about the site over here, we never work anything as far as the marketing of the website is concerned. As I believe fullorissa.com is a portal which was really designed based on its visitor’s requirement. So the only marketing strategy about fullorissa.com is complete viral type of marketing… “You visit the site, you love it then you feel like sharing it or referring it to your friends and relatives” And I believe that is how it has come to the current position. So it’s basically the peoples site for Orissa.

What is the most memorable moment for you in the entire journey of making of your web portals and making them a success?

Well about the most memorable day, being very honest its really the toughest question for me to answer as I find lots of them everyday. You just have to believe me onto this. Every day I get hundreds of emails and I read them all personally. People express their happiness, their feelings. They say Fullorissa.com is the proud of Orissa and they are really proud of the portal, they are proud of me.

This is something which gives happiness and ultimate happiness each and everyday… I read there suggestions I reply to most of them. Each of them is a memorable moment for me.

Apart from that, the day when I got to know that fullorissa.com claims to be the number one portal of Orissa as per Alexa reviews well that was really a memorable moment for me. And also the day when I got to know the number of hits has touched about a million per month… so how many of them shall I count???

As everyone knows, achieving success and capturing dreams in life is not easy and one has to face challenges. What kind of challenges came in your way? If, any.

Success is the outcome of challenges. Being a webmaster, I have faced a lot of challenges, the day I took the initiative to provide a complete web portal for Orissa. As widely known, the online culture in Orissa is not so encouraging in comparison to other states. Initially, I found it very difficult to sustain in online business considering the fact the broadband connection is very slow in Orissa. The people are not net-savvy. At the same time, there are already established giants who also cater Orissa. In any case, there is no substitution to hard work. I strongly believe in God and hard work. I worked hard to create an online culture among the people by taking several encouraging steps. For instance, I started Orissa Khatti, the first social networking site for Oriyas. At that time, the response was not encouraging. We kept constant touch with our visitors and sought their feed backs. We worked as per their needs. Now, Orissa Khatti is a major success.

Every one has an idol in their life and while heading towards their decided goal, the person always looks up to his idol. Do you have any such idol in your life, whom you admire?

To be honest, I am a firm believer of God. I believe in myself and God. What I am today is because of God and my own effort.

What according to you is the bottom line or rule for success in life?

The bottom line of success is hard work and honest. I do believe that both honesty and hard work will pay off. And one more thing “Never Give up” that should be the attitude.

If you have to do a thanks giving, which all names will it include and why?

I would like to Thanks my Parents, whose blessings and support throughout the journey helped me to be here.

I would like to thank Rakesh – My cousin for whom we got the idea about Purionline.com and he is the one who is solely responsible for Purionline.com to come to this position. And he is the one who is there with me for the whole journey.

I would like to thank my Brother – Pinku – he is the one who stays with me at Hyderabad, and is fully responsible for maintaining fullorissa.com – he is the one who always says Bhai I am there for you for ever. He is one my heart is always confident. So he has always helped me to be here.

I would like to thanks to all of my friends, who has supported me at every point in my life. Although I have few friends in my life. But as it is said one loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives. I am glad that I have lot of them. And I count myself in nothing else so happy, as when I find myself with my friends.

Where do you think Bulu Pattanaik will stand after 5 years from today?

I want to be successful in promoting Oriya culture at the international level. As widely known, Orissa is very rich in cultural values. Oriya cultural needs wide recognition. I want to spread Oriya culture and Jagannath cult throughout the world in next five years. And that’s the reason I started Purionline, fullorissa and now the new animated movie on Lord Jagannath and Orissa.

What is your message to many like you who aspire to fulfill their dreams? Would you like to give any message to your near and dear ones?

Yeah off course I have something to say to all the readers of this interview.

Do you really think this guy answering to these questions at this blog is a highly talented, educated, rich guy. Feels good to present him in front of the media whenever there is a chance? Ha ha…

No you are wrong.
He is just a common man, a common person who knows this much that rite at this moment he do not have enough time to have his food through out the day. Just keeping himself busy all the time to fulfill his dream. Could you just guess what his dream is? Oh is it doing something great as he has narrated on the 2nd answer?

Do u think it’s easy. No absolutely wrong. I would say never. If you say it’s easy then probably you have not yet understood him. You know why?

Because He just has a dream which means converting others dreams into reality.

If I had a dream of getting a dream house or a dream car for me, ha ha it would have been quite easier for me to make them reality. But it is not that.

It is a dream about making lots of people happy in this world. Is it not that big? Yeah its too big for my whole life to make it real. But I just know one thing I have a track and everyday I am working on it.

Today I find students passing out from Engineering colleges, or from professional courses like MBA and all. Do you know there is a common ambition which I can find out with at least 98% of the students passing out. And that is Just to get a good job….

Just to get a good job – and the campus recruitment is the first preference and they keep on preparing themselves for the same. If not then they have a walk in funda ha ha.

So is it something like 98% of our new generations are busy proving themselves to be a good small employee in big companies?

Say me how many of you do have an ambition to provide employment opportunities to hundreds or thousands of people in the near future?

Dreams should be such make lots of people happy.

And my friends happiness can only be achieved by making others happy. Its there for every one of us. But most of us look through the opposite window.

As it is said the morning starts the day? And guys just getup and look ahead I think this is the correct time for you people to think something ahead of your regular job life. This is the morning which is going to decide about your day.

I am not here to interpret into others dreams. I just wanted to make people understand that I find myself lucky today that I never understood the word ambition in my school days. Because don’t know if at all I knew the meaning that day then where would I have been today.

And believe me I am happy today making others happy.

o you know what is that single feature of Orkut.com which makes it stand tall and strong in the vast and tough competition with other social networking sites like facebook, ibibo, myspace, hi5 and many others?

The answer is the emphasis on communities. Communities are the group of same minded people discussing on various topics related to the community subject, type or theme. There are millions of communities on orkut. Its fact that some are really considered as superb and wow communities but there lies another truth that many among millions are fake, abusive and copied communities from the other existing true and authentic communities.

This time, we are going to show you some of the top 8 copied and fake orkut communities and also the correct and authentic communities. Our search resource is limited and we don’t want to make extra long articles and lists, so we have selected only 10 communities both original and copied/fake. Please be aware when you wish to join any community on orkut, check out the forums and what people are discussing there? It’s easy to catch the fishy things.

Music is one magical healing to everyone in stress, in pain, in confinement and in anxiety. Ask anyone about his hobby and you will get to hear music included in it, in one or the other way. Music is one art which is a respectful and is loved by all. The music could be of many types but the soul of the music is –the Classical Music. Based on this is an interesting community on the social networking site Orkut.com. The community has membership of above 16000 and the name obviously is Classical Music. It’s rigidly about western classical music and ranges from medieval to modern form of the same.

Frank Moore is the honorable present owner of the community who got the ownership in August 2006. Eric Chang founded and created the community on January 28th 2004, but out of his busy schedule could not really maintain it properly causing the community to become a victim of SPAM and absenteeism. Attrition of members was increasing and Frank and another member Dr. Pilha along with some other members were trying hard to keep the community active at that point of time. The community is one of the oldest at Orkut and Frank is continuously working towards making it more active, though it has a fine group of active members who are also highly clued-up. I am here not giving more details about Frank because our readers are already aware of this gentlemen as he is interviewed by zazo also.

The community talks about the Classical Music in Western Tradition. Technically western classical music has mainly the periods of Baroque, Classic, and Romantic movements but Frank has widened the definition for the community to include Medieval, Renaissance, and Modern work also, which follows a serious composition. The demography of community says, the majority of members are Brazilian and Indian. However it also has some active members from Estonia, Paraguay, Pakistan, China, Iran, Italy etc.

It’s so pleasant to see people from different part of the world participate so actively for something which is not even a part of their culture and tradition. It speaks about itself that how enriching is the western classical music, that people who have their own rich and extensive cultural and traditional classical music, like India are so full of zip on the community. “Brazilians also seem more attuned to Classical Music, and especially Opera, than do most people I meet in the US.” adds Frank to the context.

Its evident that, no matter what is the present face of music all over the world, there still exist a big and large segment of people who are hard core classical music lovers and do not really appreciate the add ups to the originality. It seems as if young generation is heading towards such a field of music which has lesser dignity, richness and quality. One of the reasons for this could be the non inclusion of music as a part of educational curriculum for the younger generation. But Frank hopes that there will always be a segment of society which will either be, as he was, raised with Classical Music, or are adventurous enough to discover it on their own as they mature. In respect of this topic there are some discussions also held on the community. The thread title for which is ‘Is classical music dying?’ and another interesting thread for the new comers on classical Music is, ‘(Recommended Work) Classical Music for Newcomers.’ Members get all the news and help related to the classical music, be it buying of a violin or a help someone needs to find a song urgently. There are special threads, where members can submit their own compositions and could get a review about it from the others. If a member wants to prepare for any competition, all others willingly support him and help him in his preparations. In one word it is one of the best virtual places for music passionate to actively participate and learn and educate themselves.

A very interesting thread among all the others which I found very appealing and most popular among the community members was ‘The classical music quiz’. You can find really challenging questions here and is the only game thread which is considered, other than this there could be no game thread as the community follows its guidelines rigidly. Frank attributes the success of the community to its highly dedicated team of moderators, Dr.Pilha, Eric, and Apollo. Apart from good work of moderators, Frank also says,” We try to not be stuffy, and welcome everyone, no matter how familiar, or not, they may be with Classical Music. We do, however, restrict what content is permissible. “. I believe that is one important reason for this community to be so resourceful and unique from all others of its kind.

When asked about his favorite classical music artist, Frank says,

Written by: Tara

There are lakhs of Orkut users, and so many among them have huge friend lists, hundreds of fan list , fan community, thousands of scrap and a long list of testimonials written for them . Among all those, there a profile page in orkut, where there are only 78 friends, 3 fans and no testimonial at all. However the no. of scraps unusually increased in a span of 3 days after 26th of Nov 2008. You know why, because this is the profile of Sandeep Unnikrishnan who all of a sudden became a Hero not only for India but for the whole world. Before this , not much of the people knew about him , except for his near and dear ones, but today a the mass know him , respects him, love him, shed tears for him, is proud of him and want to be like him.

Shaheed Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was serving the Indian army in the cream of the crop National Security Guard and was assigned to the Special Action Group (SAG) of NSG on January 2007. This 31 year old brave man was born in Cheruvannur – Kozhikode district, Kerala on March 15, 1977 from where his family migrated to Banglore and was settled there. Major Sandeep was the only son of retired ISRO officer Mr. K. Unnikrishnan and Mrs. Dhanalakshmi, or should I say, India’s only son. He completed his schooling from the Frank Anthony Public School, and was a charm among his fellow mates and had a dream since childhood of joining the Army. He is also remembered as an outstanding student. He was known for a young and energetic personality along with a soft core heart and his jovial nature could be known from his profile at orkut about which I mentioned earlier.

The Black Tornado Operation was a blight and misfortune that snatched our brave hero from us and we today are only talking about him and could not talk to him. Here I want to say to Zazo, “You created Orkutheroes and featured so many big people, took their interview, talked about them, wrote about them, in fact you created Heroes but how unfortunate you are that you didn’t encountered this fearless man who was present in orkut. He was there and could have been on Orkutheroes as well and imagine today what must have been the position of Orkutheroes if you would have featured him. No doubt, he is a Hero today, of this country, of our hearts, of this whole world, but we were so unfortunate that we didn’t have had him on orkutheroes. But today I say, we as a team of Orkutheroes apologize, that we did not succeeded completely in our search of bringing real heroes in front of you all and missed Major Sandeep. But today we pay him our tribute with wet eyes and add his name in the list of Orkutheroes, not because he needs it but because we need him”.

It’s not only me whose eyes will get filled with tears, while viewing his profile on Orkut. His profile shows, how simple, full of life and nature loving was this man. “I am a total movies maniac” says one of his descriptions in his profile. It becomes impossible to believe that this young enthusiast and full of life person is actually no more. “Major Unnikrishnan rescued an injured commando before he was hit,” Director-General of NSG J.K. Dutt said after he announced ‘mission accomplished’ at the Taj and quoted the slain major as telling his crack team, “Do not come up, I will handle them.”.

In his own words, according to his orkut profile, things that turn him off are,’ hypocrisy, sycophancy, apathy and lack of compassion’. So true, the proof of which is the way he hugged death, with courage. There are about 67 photographs in his album on orkut, which all shows the real man within him. A normal young boy like you or me who wants to travel , take snaps, celebrate with his friends, talk, eat, watch sunsets, smile, and have fun. So much was still there for him to do, which was undone, which was left for him, and still waits for him, that he would return and do. But those coward and handful of boys, took it all away from him , and we were so helpless, silent spectators in front of our TV sets watched him died. How miserable is our condition today and I feel ashamed towards the divine soul of major Sandeep , that he actually got killed by the dirty politics of this country and irresponsible citizens like us who are still not aware. Please people wake up along with OrkutHeroes tribute to the great Shaheed Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and take a pledge that we no more get to see such departures of our brave heroes..

You can not call it a scorn or an irony. It is not the truth, and it’s not a false statement. It could be a criticism and at the same time an appraisal. No it’s not fake, yet not real. It is an exercise for your brain, or a brain totter. You think I am talking about some puzzle? Or is it a riddle? You think it’s mysterious? Do not worry, not any of this. It is nothing but Paradox.

Here I don’t want to confuse my readers but to introduce a grand, well maintained and a matchless online community on Orkut, named Paradoxes. The members of the community talk and discuss paradoxes. Paradox is a sentence which is self-contradictory. It’s like, we have two sentences, which are both true when kept apart, but when we bring them together and join them, and the meaning will be jarring, which is actually more of an allegory. Like we solve a puzzle, we have classifications for paradoxes as well. There is a variety of paradoxes, such as Classical Paradox, Apparent Paradox, Logical Paradox, Mathematical Paradox, etc.

A simple example for logical Paradox can be: A Cretan says “All Cretans are liars”.

“At Paradoxes we take up the classic paradoxes or try to create paradoxes out of everyday events and then discuss them to find out if they are only apparent paradoxes (that is, if there is some way in logic, metaphysics, science, mathematics or any other discipline, including religious discourse) by which they can be resolved, or whether they, at our present stage of knowledge, are destined to remain “paradoxes” or unresolved”, informs Protik, one of the moderators of the community.

I believe, by now you have got my idea. If not then, please go and visit the community and I am sure you’ll get it easily and will enjoy also.. In the words of Protik,” Mohit started out this community with a view to have a place where we could discuss everything that was paradoxical, anomalous or plain strange.”Unlike the other communities, it’s a community where you will get to see members from all orders, such as some policy makers, members of the government, the professions, services, creative artists and students, and representatives of all age groups.

Apart from the owner of the community, Mohit, there are two moderators, Samvit who has toiled the most for the community day and night and Protik Prokash Banerji, who took out his precious time from his busy schedule for a discussion held regarding the community Paradoxes, at Rated-WOW! Community showcase. Protik is happily married with a lovely daughter and practices law at the High court at Calcutta. He loves to watch movies, read and listen to music. Protik Prokash Banerji is the first Indian lawyer to have won a judgment in favor of his client that an arbitrator under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 is amenable to jurisdiction under Article 227 of the Constitution Of India and that orders of the arbitrator may be challenged under Article 227, which remained the law of the land for 5 years before being impliedly overruled by the Supreme Court of India in 2005. To know more about him you can simply do a Google search and will find him on Wikipedia.

Being such a big personality on professional as well as personal front, Protik works brilliantly for Paradoxes with the backbone of the community Samvit. As per the expectation the community is a SPAM Free, and follows a rule where there is a separate forum for posting advertisements. Since the community’s title is itself very challenging, so for sure it come across hindrances, but then moderators are always present to interfere whenever the situations are not restful and they try and make things better and rumble on the personal face ,but never on rational front. “Inter se, we quarrel violently, make sarcastic comments so long as we are convinced that we are right, but once persuaded otherwise, back down, apologize and there’s no bad feeling.” added Protik in the context. In extreme cases they also delete the posts and do permanent banning from the community. It’s a community of more then 21000 members but according to Protik not all of them are active at all times. However the team follows a planned scheme to learn how many people are actively posting and how many have completely lost every clue. Such people are again contacted and if they have any problem, the team tries and helps them out for no cost. Subjects on the forum range from Science, theology, AI, Intelligent Design to Metaphysics, Mathematics and a lot more. “You can write verse, have fun, pun, be very serious and still participate in the discussion meaningfully. We sometimes function as a think tank for other organizations and institutes, (in an absolutely honorary capacity) and they mine our discussions for ideas and solutions.” says Protik wisely. Each and every post on the community needs to be in English or if not, requires an English translation. Moreover, there is a separate Chat thread, where members can chat on any topic they wish to, and can relax and refresh themselves, being paradoxite! The community sticks to its nature of being virtual and online, there are no events held outside the online premises of Paradoxes.

The conversation with Protik proved the sea of knowledge and intelligence in him, and that made me surer about the community and its positive aspects. The community is a complete refreshment and dose to one’s brain, all sensible, yet so Paradoxical!

The 21st century is more advanced both technologically and socially from any of the past centuries of the world. If, this is true then let me tell you that it is not the complete truth because every social and economical infrastructure today is the output of the initiative taken by the people who left this world hundreds and thousands of years ago. That’s History and History is the only way to trace out those hidden foot marks of our ancestors.

Such, exploration and studies related to history especially the middle ages are enthusiastically being discussed, debated and talked openly on one of the most unique, well constructive and dynamic community, Medieval History, on Orkut.com, a social networking site.

The community has more then 16000 members, from all over the globe like India, Pakistan, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and Europe too. Since the community is something which relates to ancient times and incidents of middle ages, there are also members from slighter known places like, Pacific Islands, Fiji and Cyprus. Medieval History is an extensive subject and has a lot stored in it. So the focus of the community is the medieval history itself and does not include ancient and modern history, however such topics sometimes muddle up the objective of the community. The community is one of the most interesting one which keeps you eager about next post always.

The community was created by one Spanish orkut user, Eliza. Since it was the first community of its nature lot of members joined and frequently posted threads but Eliza had some other priorities as well so she handed over the ownership to Khodadad, a Persian from U.S.A, who himself was an intellectual. During his ownership, a lot of members stepped in but out of some technical problems and some personal reasons he wasn’t able to devote much of his time for the community and that became a reason for spammers and anti-social elements to attack the community. However, he returned back and apologized to the members for whatever happened and started looking for dedicated and responsible moderators. At that point of time there was one person who was most active on the community, who eventually became the owner because Khodadad was pursuing his PhD.

The man, who was then the most active member, is today a proud and responsible owner of the community, Saber Qureshi. Saber an Indian, has done Journalism and Mass Communications and is presently working as a consultant with Times of India. History has always been a fascination for him. He comes from a sound background in terms of his favorite subject History. His mother herself is a historian and father is passionate about historical books and journals. Saber has a vast collection of Books, resources and even games he plays are based on medieval history. Some of his most favorite games based on history are Age of Empires, Medieval Total War I and II, Stronghold and Rome-Total War.

As Saber joined the community he started paying full attention towards deleting of repeated threads and non-relevant information and banning the spammers. He also appointed a moderator from Mexico who gave the equal contribution. And the fruits could be seen today. According to the owner, it’s a community today where, there are always more than 50 members lined up for approval everyday.

But the community’s success wasn’t a cake walk for Saber as it also has some hard core fundamentalists, and history is a subject where anything can lead to a controversy very easily. And at such point of time it becomes difficult for the owner to handle the situation because of the heated exchange of words in the forum. For example, The Taj Mahal discussion where some people were with a view that it was not built by Shahjahan, or The Spanish and Mexican issue which became a subject of controversy between some Europeans and South Americans.” Whatever it has been, I and my moderator Alicia have taken umpteen care not to hurt the sentiments of anyone. We also have a lot of racists; they eventually get banned after several warnings or are simply removed”, informs Saber when asked about how do they manage and come over controversies. He has wisely appointed a Mexican moderator and is looking for a European as well, so that they can maintain a balance, because for instance, if Asians go on discussing Indian or Asian history then its of very little connotation to South Americans and vice-versa. Saber and the moderator Alicia work with patience and politeness and the members of the community understand them and are equally co-operative. The topics discussed mainly includes, European History because Asians as well as South Americans uniformly find it attention-grabbing.

Saber has traveled around few other social networking sites as well but finds Orkut the best in terms of arrangement and serving his purpose. He anticipates, developing Medieval History Community a brand name in future.” Saber, what message do you want to give to our readers?” The answer to this question is worth knowing for all of you.

” Well, for those who think History is a bore and stale subject, think twice. Many of our members ended up knowing their roots and their origin. Of course the past helps a child know, who he is and so history does matter. And let me tell you, some of the events like the Crusades, 100 years war have created heroes who in turn have changed the course of History, think of the many inventions, if it wouldn’t have been for the Mesopotamians who invented wheel, things would have been different. So, let us not forget our past.”

Well said Saber! My visit to this community was an eye-opener and I believe it will be for most of our readers as well. Medieval History community today is an inspiration for people who loose hope when face obstacles. Go and have a visit to this community and enhance yourself.
