Blogging Jealousy – How to Cut This Crap?

by zazo on May 8, 2010

What if you’d prepared a stunning new blog post with days of hard work and when published, it went unnoticed. Some fewer retweets and no comments will have unsurprisingly disappointed you. But on the other side, a competitor blog with same niche posted something similar story had earned hundreds of comments and retweets.

If this happen once, you’ll probably try to check back on your story to find out where did you lack. But if this repeats on, even if you are giving your best effort then you might get knocked off with a feeling of insecurity from that competing blog/blogger. This pessimistic feeling is close to what we call jealousy.

Jealousy is termed as a negative feeling exceptionally found in human beings. We all have this inferiority reaction with one another, especially those who are associated with us in an interpersonal relationship. We are often jealous of our colleagues, our friends or siblings for anything they have superior or higher than us socially, physically or economically.

Successful Bloggers are a community of people with a single goal of helping each other, helping their blog readers and a specific community. It would be wrong to define Successful bloggers as those who hit a million pages viewed/month or earn 5 figures from ads and affiliate marketing. These are just some of the additional benefits being given in the return of the effort.

Every successful blogger comes out as a result of the long hours spent in writing and researching on his niche and lots of mind juggling to keep rolling out the valuable content to his blog audience every day, making healthy relationships and skilled marketing strategy.

Usually, a blogger might get jealous of another blogger because of high traffic, high earning, good number of comments and a community following him. If you have a problem of inferiority, insecurity and jealousy with a blogger then you need to fight it back with positive attitude, confidence and egoless actions to overcome the power of negativity with your inner super power of positivity.

Question yourself. Who is the real culprit? Your blog content, design, audience or your less passionate but fast earning behavior or that desire to list your name as earliest it can be with famous bloggers?

No. None of the above are real culprits.

Your ego, habit of comparing yourself with others; inferiority complex, anger and fear are responsible for that insecurity and jealousy you are carrying with you.

Kill Your Ego!

Ego is a devil of all devils ready to attack your principle without any pre-warning. It will bash your brain with a thought like “I am perfect” and there you will be trapped.

There is no definition for perfection so there is no one who can claim to be perfect.  The sentence I am Perfect itself sounds i-m-perfect i.e. imperfect.

Blogging is not a war of perfectionists. It is a service you are providing to your readers free of cost. Try to be perfect in your work but never claim yourself to be perfect.

Because no one is perfect, crush your ego by letting it down. Respect good bloggers, accept your mistakes and try to be perfect. The word “We” has more power than the word “I”.

Stop Comparison!

Measuring your ability with other individual or a group of people quite possibly can give birth to  feeling of hostility and insecurity. However, comparing yourself with others in a positive manner might improve your performance but we are more attracted towards wrong things than right. So, the heavier is a portion of jealousy.

However, human beings are equally created in terms of physical attributes but psychologically we are incomparable.  Our thoughts, belief, social activities, upbringing and way we see life differs from each other.

First rule to beat this negativity is Stop Looking at other’s capabilities. Secondly, dig your strength which is hiding under the cover of insecurity. You cannot seriously compare the ability of Pete Cashmore with Seth Godin. You can’t even compare the ability of Hayabusa with Harley.

Smash Inferiority!

Physical, mental and social limitations lead to the feeling of inferiority, just to cut this crap don’t start feeling superior but try to find a balanced way to come out of this unnecessary stress. Be confident in yourself, be in company of people who always encourage you and work towards improving yourself in best way, be it your writing, conversing or marketing skills.

Don’t underestimate your potential; don’t neglect your inner charm. Take this world as to be yours and win the hearts of your blog visitors and audiences.

Switch Off Anger!

Anger is a common emotion found in both humans and animals. We often get angry on something unacceptable to our opinions (personally, socially and politically) which is also not necessarily acceptable by others.

A blogger unable to reach his monthly goal unaccepted the fact of his failure gets angry, which might result in something destructive to his own self.

I am myself is short tempered but I found a way to kill this negative attribute by some of my own tips. I prefer a glass of water than having a cup of tea. I take a long walk or ride my bike to anywhere it can take me to cool my mind. I start playing with my nearly 2 yr old toddler to temporarily hide the feeling of failure which leads to anger but I later work on it positively.

You need to find your own way to come out of Anger.

Cut Down the Fear!

A threat of life is a biggest fear of all time. But we all are very well aware of this fact, that we cannot save ourselves from death. If we accept the cycle of life and death then we will not be afraid of anything.

What could be ours forever, if this life is not? Fear of losing something for me is just like fooling myself because I believe nothing is mine except the belief and feeling I am carrying with me right now.

We should fear for something needful, fear for what good we can’t do to others in this short time. Make fear your power to achieve heights, a ladder to reach your goal.

Facebook can’t have reached to the first position if they remained afraid of Google. Mashable can’t have reached heights if it feared Techcrunch. They would have limited themselves from starting on, by such thoughts and world wouldn’t have heard about them.

Or say it in other way, Facebook and Mashable are number 1 in their area of expertise because they are afraid of Google and techcrunch respectively, beating them down to second position some day. This fear is the strength in real sense, to save their position they keep on providing value to their readers/users better than the last day.
