“Free” Is Increasing Spamming And Scamming

Spamming and scamming are increasing day by day; on an average, my mailbox welcomes about five mails a day claiming a lottery win, lucky ATM card, email winner and everything that can lure a common internet user.

Internet is something which promotes “What’s Free Is Yours”. The system of “free” has boosted spamming and scamming on the web. “Free” mind people use the “free” stuff to cheat people and make money. Everything they need to build their empire is available for free on the web:

1. Free Hosting Services:

Web space is the basic requirement of a website and availability of web space for free is a boon for spammers.

Since, reputed hosting providers may block hosting of such sites it would cause a financial loss to the owner. Therefore, in most of the cases, free hosting is used to host sites meant for forgery and spamming.

2. Free / Cheap Domains:

Buying a domain is not a big deal; you can find a number of discount offers every day. Availability of free domains helps people minimize the expenses. Such sites generally use a domain similar to a reputed site.

3. Free Scripts

A large number of spamming/scamming sites require scripts to build dynamic content. Not everyone is a good developer and designer. But, as usual, one can find clone/site scripts for free. A number of forums and sites are dedicated to promote such kind of “free” stuff.

Mailing / bombing scripts are a good way to flood the victim’s inbox..!!

4. Free Content

Everyone knows content on web can’t be protected and this helps spammers spice up their sites. Almost all sites meant for forgery use content which is copied from the original sites.

5. Free Registration

Yes, it’s one of the reasons. No one needs to pay a fee to get registered on most of the sites. Spammers use these sites and forums extensively. They post links in their comments and signatures on forums, blogs, social networking sites, community pages, groups and every possible place which gives them an opportunity to write.

This was all that I could figure out. Was I charged for it? Was I paid? No..!! This is yet another “free” stuff. If you have something to add to the list, drop in a comment.

Yes! You have rightly and very safely landed on OrkutHeroes which is no more OrkutHeroes. We have neither shifted nor moved anywhere, this is that same blog you used to enjoy reading but the only changes you can notice is the name flockpost and the blog design.

As we’d announced some time back about orkutheroes.com will be known as flockpost.com, go through this post to know everything about flockpost.

Still there are many things to be done on part of customization and design, so kindly excuse us if you notice some changes or are unable to use few of our blog features. We are in our final stage of completion.

Any suggestions regarding the look of flockpost will be helpful for us. So, please feel free to make comment.

Being one of the most unique blog of its kind, flockpost.com has already completed its 1^st successful year on internet on 23^rd March 2009. Yes we know its 4 months passed. It’s just a matter of time and a inexcusable coincidence that we could not able to celebrate our 1^st birthday as planned. But, luckily orkutheroes got two small and beautiful birthday gifts, first on June 29^th when an exclusive story on flockpost.com was published in ERGO magazine which is a free supplement of a prestigious Indian daily newspaper The Hindu. And second on July 3^rd when we installed a new and better theme/design for orkutheroes to make it look more professional and easy to navigate.

Monisha Mohandas, a reporter from ERGO approached us and took a brief interview of both founder and co-owner of orkutheroes Zaheer Abbas (zazo) and Tarannum (Tara) and gave us an honorable recognition. I would say that it’s just a start and there are more like this on its way.

Thanks! A big thanks to all our readers, who continuously supported us, trusted us and helped us in coming through all this way. Congratulations! To all those individuals and orkut community owners and moderators whose stories, interviews and community reviews are published on OrkutHeroes.com.

However, our blog is not any official award but definitely a reward to those who are utilizing their precious online time on doing something good for others, while many of us just think “being online is nothing but fun”.

Online Journey of a Scientist- Life Made Simple

Life Made Simple is a book written by one of the most influential man I come across through social networking site orkut. It is a Journey of a scientist, a motivator and a public speaker Dr. T.P Sasikumar who is also a spiritual teacher, a father, a son and a husband. Life Made Simple is an online community on orkut where Dr Sasikumar used to conduct questions and answers session, discussions and advices to those who seek a right path for life.

Dr Sasikumar pen down his experiences and all his important discussions on a book Life Made Simple, which is now available in Indian market. The book also contains T.P Sasikumar’s interview on orkutheroes which I took on 10^th may 2008. I feel lucky to be mentioned in Life Made Simple.

The Preface of the Book says:

“This book has taken birth through a socializing website orkut. Running my community “Life is to Live”, I had received tremendous response from netizens all over the world. After years of its making the community got hacked. But see! Life moves on.

Now, there is another orkut community “Life Made Simple” and its brainchild, this book. All the important discussions, questions and answers sessions which formed the part of the forum on the community, have been taken verbatim in this book just to make it realistic and easy to read and digest. They are inserted in the form of comments.

No matter, how big or established we are in our fields of work and interest, the common aim at which we all are striving for is To Lead life fully. Michael Jackson,”King of Pop” that is how world recognizes him for quite subsequent years. Michael Joseph Jackson, born on Aug 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. is an American Singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger, dancer, choreographer, actor, businessman, and financier. MJ is a man who made people of all age group, dance on his numbers for more then a decade now. In this journey of more then 50 years he came across many controversies, related to his personal life like, his face surgery, charges of sexual and child abuse. But all this do not let him go off the minds and heart of his fans. He has been cited one of the world’s most famous men. You can still see people dressed like him in different music events organized. In one line we can say that he gave the world a new definition of break dance, being an Afro- American. Jackson has also raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes and charity. There is lot more about Jackson to be written about but it needs an entire book and this article could not do justice to it.

There is no big deal in talking about his fans because he is a hero for the music and dance lovers all over world, but what I want to portray is, we have always seen fans meeting ,doing party ,wearing t-shirts printed MJ’s name or picture on it, dancing like him and we also know that their must be thousands of his fans online as well ,but have you ever thought what these fans can do by creating an online community on any of the social networking site? Yes, the question comes up is what do they do? Here I got the answer when came across the community Michael Jackson on orkut.com.

The English MJ community was started by an American guy in February 2004, but it was not really active and last year Alexandre Montagna from Brazil took it over. He found Rita, who prefers to be called EMJ, and works in Mumbai for an IT firm, to be a big time MJ Fan and found her capable of being given the responsibility of the moderator and then the community flourished like never before and today it is here being tagged as a WOW!.

While surfing on Orkut you will find many MJ’s Fans community but this community is the cleanest and SPAM free. Recently they went through a clean up session and that’s why if you will visit the community you will find very less threads. But all existing ones are worth. Any poll needs to get moderator approval to start. The community does not supports music piracy, and no threads are allowed for gaming (non-MJ), or topics not linked to MJ. Doing all this was tough for EMJ and another moderator Suryeah but then they continued following their rules which made few people infuriated as well but they continue to struggle and make their community an idol place for everyone with latest reports and assessments.

The community provides you with some of the best and revealing threads. Each thread has its own reason to stay like, ‘MJ’s videos’, ‘MJ’s unreleased tracks’ or ‘MJ Experiences’ or ‘King of Pop quiz’ or ‘The MJ chat thread’. Regular feedback is taken and members are always encouraged to come up with new and creative ideas like the recent one,’ Hall of Fame’. The community makes each effort possible to bring in light Michael Jackson’s true talent and pay tribute to their idol in every probable way.

Dismayed by the ways MJ is always been dragged into controversy and really annoyed with the media, EMJ says, that there is no proof for whatever MJ is been charged of and it’s sad that people still do not know the entire truth and do not even try to acknowledge the facts, in a discussion on Rated -WOW! Unfortunately, we live in society where people get their kicks from hurting others images, no matter how dirty and disgusting it goes.

Manchester United Fans Forever-Author’s Choice

Another community for football fans and yet another one on ManUTD. Now why would you want to join this or rather you would be wondering why are we reviewing this community, right?

Well read on and you would know why.

Created on the 23 of September, 2006 by a ManUTD fan from West Bengal (India), this community grew from just a handful of members to strength of 1325 and still growing. The size of the community might not be much to boast about considering the size of other similar communities but it does hold water when we see the level of “meaningful” activity on the community. And I say “meaningful” to highlight the fact that this community is virtually spam free. The moderators are active enough to make sure that whatever goes on in the community is meaningful, sensible and healthy.

Now what exactly is the USP of this community? Is it that it is spam free??? No. This community has dedicated threads to deal with every possible event related to ManUTD. Be it the Pre-match and Post-match analysis, transfer gossip, medical ward & injuries or any kind of news on and off the field is made available on the community as and when it occurs!

In addition to this they have the “Predictor King” & “Predictor Prince” contest happening every week wherein the members have to predict the score line of a particular match day along with the scorers!

Man United Fans Forever aims at keeping its members updated with not only every news related to the Club but also with the news related to the world of Football! This is evident from the threads dealing with EURO 2008. On one of the thread a comprehensive analysis of every game played in the tournament is provided & in the other thread members can obtain the download links of all the goals scored in the tournament! The links are provided according to match days for smooth navigation for the members!

Religious pluralism

When a baby is born, if it is born to a Christian family it is baptized, if to a Hindu family then the family has a mundan ceremony, if to a Muslim family he is circumcised and the list of rituals goes on as per the religion. But the question is did the baby herself chose her religion??? No. It was just imposed upon her. This very child grows up learning about the rites and rituals that accompany her faith and grows to fall in love with it. This learning contributes to the individual that she turns out to be and this individual upholds her religion with utmost respect.

But somehow this honor and respect vanishes for someone else’s religion. Many turn out to be quite intolerant about other people’s faiths and their beliefs. They disregard what matters the most to others, make them the butt of all jokes, sneer at them and expect them not to react to any of this. This is the amount of tolerance one human being has for another’s beliefs! Many people uphold their denomination in high esteem and think themselves to possess absolute religious truth. They view other denominations as somewhat error prone or completely opposed to the truth.

We all pride ourselves at who we are, where we belong to, our caste, customs, sex, colour and what not. To the extent we restrict ourselves to marrying people within the same community because we fear what religion our children would adopt, we fear them not wanting to accept the religion which we have grown up with and more importantly we do not want to adjust with our partner’s beliefs. All across the world we know how one man’s hatred for the Jews led to mass murdering of innocent people and for what reason? Just because they chose to follow another God’s teachings??? We shiver at the very thought of the concentration camps started by the Nazis’, we hate the American government for what they are doing to Iran and Iraq, we cried along with the Americans when the twin towers came crashing down like a house of cards, we outrightly condemn the riots that go on in our country but do nothing to change the way people think. We think as long as we aren’t a part of it, it doesn’t matter. Well, it does matter.

This is where Religious Pluralism steps in-a small community on Orkut started by Supriya Tyagi (the owner of many communities on Orkut). Religious Pluralism is a loosely defined term which means tolerance towards other people’s religion. The aim of the community is to bring together people from diverse cultures and backgrounds on a common platform to share and discuss what they believe in. Although a small community, the message it sends out is quite large- to be respectful of one’s feelings and to sort out differences amicably.

Finally, I have just one thing to say. Not everyone is intolerant or insensitive. They are many great human beings who look beyond such petty issues. But unfortunately there are those who are still caught in the shackles of society. So the next time you decide to make fun of any one or be biased towards someone just because they chose to worship a different God or have a different set of beliefs, just ponder over this for a minute-what if you were born into that faith???
