There is news that might change or very closely will affect the way you use twitter. It is been said that twitter is testing new feature, known as “You Both Follow”. Though it’s not announced officially but Nick Kallen, twitter’s employee confirmed this via a tweet.

You Both Follow look and work similar like facebook mutual friends. It will show you the list of people you and another person are following. The list will appear on your twitter profile sidebar.

Kallen’s tweet said that only 10% of twitter users have this feature available, and if this proves a value providing feature then it might be available for all twitter users soon.

I find it really “in need” feature to make myself more reachable through twitter. Mutual Friends on Facebook is too much effective for a person to trust any stranger who has more mutual friends than a person with no mutual friend. It works as a trust builder and certainly create large network of mutual friends. This might work nicely on twitter too.

I don’t know how others will react on “You Both Follow” on twitter, but it shows twitter’s aim on emphasize it as a social network platform than just a media tool to share links.

I hope to see “You Both Follow” soon,

What do you say about it?

In a very first look I found it too simple and boring, but as I started exploring tdash, the features are really impressive and best to organize my twitter activities.

Today I am very proud to share an exclusive interview of an exclusive personality I met on twitter, @v_shakthi.

Shakthi Vadakeypat aka v_shakthi on twitter is a Software Engineer with 15 years of professional experience. Hails from Chennai India, He had worked in various positions, from Lab Administrator for a network of Unix Servers to Senior Project Manager (IT Infrastructure).

Shakthi is a twitter junkie; he loves to tweet on social media, technology, humor, internet news, mostly to engage with his friends and his more than 30k followers on Twitter.

I was surprised when I discovered him on twitter some 6 months back and since then I was following his activities, his way of engaging, approaching and the way he made his credibility between the vast numbers of people which is undoubtedly impressive .

This interview is focused on @v_shakthi opinion on social media, his likes, his tweeting secrets and more…

1. Since when you are tweeting and what was your first impression about twitter?

I have been tweeting since Jan 2008. My first impression of twitter was as a time pass tool where I could chat with a lot of people.

….

2. What is one best feature of twitter you love and why?

Retweeting (RT) is the best feature of twitter that I love. A single RT increases the visibility of a tweet exponentially and gets you hitherto unimagined visibility and reputation. RT is the most powerful feature of twitter and will always be.

….

3. What is one thing which you hate about twitter and why?

Stalkers and Spammers are the bane of twitter. You see , anonymity is allowed on twitter and many people use it as a tool to hurt / ridicule others .They forget that they themselves are hiding behind a veil and launch scathing attacks on people . I have seen this phenomenon make a lot of my good friends even leave twitter for good. We need to do something about this fast. Otherwise twitter will get spoilt soon like Orkut.

….

4. This is one most common question being asked by most of the new twitter users “How to increase followers”? What are your tips?

There is no magic formula for getting followed. You just need to tweet sensibly, have a clearly defined twitter strategy, create a trusted ring of friends and tweet things that are contemporary and not trivial. It takes perseverance and a lot of hard work to get followers on twitter. It is all about building trust and relationships. Twitter is about sharing and not selling. Remember that and you will do good!

….

5. Would you like to name any top 10 twitter users everyone should follow?

@zaibatsu @cheth @kim @Jason_Pollock @FlipBooks @rM1L @2morrowknight @Lotay @AskAaronLee @RuhaniRabin

….

6. You’ve updated more than 80,000 tweets. What are the benefits of twitter?

Twitter has unparalleled benefits in the visibility and reputation that you can build with it. The sheer power of twitter lies in the number of people on it and the volume of information on offer. This power comes with great responsibility and needs to be handled with care. We should take care of what we say and about whom we are saying things. Care also needs to be exercised when expressing opinions about religion or groups. Twitter is like molding clay, in the right hand, it is ART, in the wrong ones…..

….

7. What are your favorite twitter applications?

Tweetdeck , Buzzom , TweTool

….

8. Twitter is the 10th top website in India by Alexa (facebook is #4 and orkut.co.in is #7), still, to my personal judgment majority of Indian twitter users don’t find twitter interesting .What do you think about this?

We Indians are brought up in a shell, talking in school is punished and even our schooling discourages communication skill development as a malaise, although we are educated, we are not expressive. That is why you are seeing this trend. We are a much closeted society and we need to come out of the shackles and be expressive. Twitter is just another platform for expression.

….

9. What else you do other than tweeting? Any hobbies, likes etc.

Blogging, Writing, poetry. Reading…

….

10. Which is your second favorite social media website after twitter?

Facebook

….

11. Any real life experience related to twitter which you like to share.

Twitter has been a great boon to me. In times of personal grief and stress, many of my twitter friends have stepped in and helped me out. I am forever indebted to them and twitter for improving my life. I will never forget them and those days of tribulations.

….

12. Social Media is a complete new name in Indian web market, what is your take on it. Are we ready to adopt social media in our real life?

No, India is not yet there, if you look at the internet penetration in India, you will understand what I am trying to say, social media is enabled by the internet and our country is lagging behind seriously in internet penetration. The farmer, the teacher, the scientist and the Governor – all need to have internet for social media to click in India.

….

13. Would you like to share the day you always remember on twitter?

Every day since Jan 2008 has been memorable for me on twitter.

I’ve tried to list down 10 outstanding, most followed, most listed and ultimate Indian/Indian origin Tweeples who are masters in Social Media, Internet Marketing and/or Technology.

Twitter in India is getting immense popularity, you know why? Because more and more Bollywood and Cricket celebrities are joining the twitter league, I am not against following any celebrities on twitter, I myself follow some of them.

But, other than celebrities there are many other Indian tweeples who keep their track glowing with achievements, successes, popularity and credibility.

There are Twitter users who are the trend setters and inspiration to millions of other twitter users, these people are dedicated professionals, high spirited and certainly the best to be known as leaders in their respective fields of profession.

Though, I have listed many top and best tweeples in past but this list is significantly different.

Here, this time I have listed or the best way to say, I’ve tried to list down 10 outstanding, most followed, most listed and ultimate Indian/Indian origin Tweeples who are masters in Social Media, Internet Marketing and/or Technology.

This is also first time I tried to give ranking to these magnificent personalities you should follow if you are still not following them.

How I listed them as top 10?

From my very small knowledge on social media and online credibility, I tried to figure out their ranks by comparing their number of twitter followers, number of users they are following, number of times they are listed and how many times they tweeted.

The other important aspect I considered here is how these top 10 people affected their followers, how they performed with their specialties and their impact on their audiences or clients was. I tried to compare the success meter of these individual by small research I did for them outside twitter.

You may find that I did not only consider their number of followers while listing them in top 10.

I am in no way claiming my list as perfect or best. It’s upon you to decide. The only intention of mine by creating this list is to share some of my most favorite Indian Tweeples.

I will come up with more such list of Indian Tweeples in future.

We reported about the “follow” bug on twitter few days ago, which allowed users to make another user follow them forcefully. This bug was later on removed by authorities. The whole episode left very interesting data. It shows who are the most sought after people, users will like to have in their followers. Any guesses?

The no.1 is Oprah Winfrey. The famous T.V. personality topped the list followed by Lady Gaga, and Justine Beiber.Image via Mashable

Tweeting also burns calories. A new application known as TweetCalories can give you details of calories burnt in previous 24 hours by sending tweets. This application is designed by Gargantuan Ad Agency Grupo ABC for a Brazilian gym, Companhia Athletica, as a marketing attempt.

It is free to use. Just visit the site and in the window type your user name and enter your gender.

On next page it shows how many tweets and retweets you have sent, characters typed and how many times you cursed others.

The app works by assuming several factors. For example, it’s figured that the average word length in a tweet is about 6 characters. It assumes the average user’s typing speed is 60 words per minute, that the user is of an average or healthy weight and normally burns around 2.65 calories per minute, and that it takes around 23 seconds to write and send a tweet of 140 characters. Based on these figures, the app’s creators have determined that sending a tweet burns around 1.03 calories.

This is a very funny application once you calculated it for yourself then for sure you will recommend it to your friends and family. Seems marketing experiment has paid off. Now tweeting can be a good excuse of working out with measurable results.

There is a bug on Twitter which lets a user to force another user to follow the first one.

On twitter, people wants to have a large following. As we all know that larger the following is better the reputation is. Few more stars are added to reputation if following contains big names like Bill Gates or Sachin Tendulkar. But it is quiet impossible for a normal person to have such celebrities following him. A bug on twitter can make this possible. Just by writing “ accept @username” then the [username] immediately starts following you. You can make anyone on twitter follow you.

The bug appears to have originally been noticed by a Turkish blog, followed by the blog Webrazzi, which successfully tested it out and forced the Twitter accounts of industry luminaries like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Evan Williams to follow a dummy profile. The flaw allowed members to add followers to their own accounts, basically, by tweeting “accept” followed by “@” and any given Twitter user name.

Twitter spokesman Sean Garrett admits that the bug is real and in order to find a solution to this problem first step taken was the disabling of Follower/following counts. It’s not yet clear how long the bug had been in existence or whether it could potentially give Twitter users access to the contents of “protected” accounts in which all tweets are private.

Making it impossible for users to take an undue advantage of it. If you try to check whether bug is working or not by clicking the followers button still you will not find anything now onwards.

Earlier this day using this bug many people made Conan O Brain follow them. Previously, the comedian was famously only following one person Sarah Killen.

However, twitter team has fixed this issue, so don’t try to make celebrities follow you anymore.
