Community Owners or Community Farmers?

by zazo on October 6, 2008

That was my first encounter with someone who owns more than 1 or 2 communities on orkut 2 years back and I was really shocked to know that she owns more than 20 communities….wooo unbelievable!! Soon, I understood that actually I over reacted, there are lot more to come on the way.

Than I met someone with more than 30 communities, than more than 50 than it was biggest shock I received when I come to know about Nelam Singh with more than 150 communities and than my legs were really left the strength to carry my small weight when I met Priscilla a Brazilian who owns more than 800 communities and total 9 million members…I asked to myself that what the heck is going on? Who are these crazy people? Are they community owners or community farmers?

Like Neelam and Priscilla there are many names now recognized as community masters around orkut who owns and manage their communities not less than like a million dollar venture with the team of moderators, promoters and advertisers who co-ordinates in a real professional manner. Though, most of the people call them community owners I got more suitable word for them “FARMER” Community Farmers suits them perfectly because of their hard work, dedication and extreme love for their fertile land (community).

These Community Farmers are always remain in a objectionable list of gossips and questions that how they got so many members in a less time?, how they can manage 100s of communities all alone? And, some questions arise for their multiple accounts on orkut too. But still the competition between them is high even if the world economy is going through crises but community farmer’s never-profitable business is always reached the peak points.

If I say never-profitable business than don’t take me completely right because this can also make them earn some bucks by advertising some web properties on their communities and this could be a very good idea to reach the mass. I don’t any particular person doing this but I saw many communities with ads of other websites un-related to them or that community, this can offer them trouble if its against the orkut/google terms but till they (Google) point out such activities Community Farmers can make some hot deals.

I admit that not every readers will be happy of this post but still it’s a debatable questions for those who try to make business from people who are really unaware of getting used and those community owners who work hard to get 20 members but couldn’t achieve because of less professional knowledge like community farmers has.

One more question which is really serious and objectionable is that getting 3000 members in less than a month is not that easy if worked organically and if these community farmers are using some ugly scripts which automatically joined thousands of members even without their knowledge and wish than it’s really painful to know. Business is not always good and when it turns into a “who is first?” competition than things could go worst.

Time will show how much the trend of community farming on orkut will be successful.
