First Day-First Show! on Orkut

by zazo on January 16, 2009

It’s been long such movie buffs exist in our country and outside who wait for each Friday to get a new movie released and to take the honor of watching the first day first show of it and feel privileged and delighted. Based on the theme is an online community on social networking site of Orkut.com, “First Day First Show” it is only one of its kind where dedicated community members who are obviously a movie freaks genuinely review all the movies and they do it with great sincerity and loyalty , of course with relishing themselves and enjoying.

It’s a community of members crossing 750 in number which started on Feb 24th, 2006 and Aniruddha Patil, an IT Professional from Pune is the man behind it, rather the single man to own and moderate the community. Bravo! As it is said somewhere, managing a community is almost equal you being a mayor of a city. Aniruddha is not new to our readers, as he has already been a part of Orkutheroes earlier because of another great community “Pune Eat Outs”.

First Day First Show, is a exclusive and exhilarating community where all members after watching any movie at its very first show review about it and hence play an important role among many others who tag a movie a hit or a flop. The owner started this community only as a tribute to his love and passion for movies, music and food. He has also gone to the level of watching 6 different movies in theatre in a single day, he discloses with a smile. He found that there are many others like him and thus FDFS simply happened. But soon it started serving purpose for many like minded people like Aniruddha and hence they kept growing and moving on to next level.

As the name suggest, they review any movie at the earliest they can and they make sure that it is done after one day of the release of movie and not later then that. Aniruddha proudly says, “The way we call…”We belong to that group of people who spread the word and decide the fate of the movie”, in a discussion held at Rated –WOW! community on Orkut.

What makes this community the different in a flock is the basic guideline which the owner follows, which is performing the basics right. You will never find and review copy pasted from another forum here, as they delete it as soon as they saw it, so importantly it has to be the users review. They do not accept join request with fake profiles and all this is not as easy as it seems to be. SPAM which is a common problem in every community is a problem here as well, but as any good community should be, this one is also spam free.” I think doing the basics right, at the right time, builds creditability and attracts people. Which in turn, develops into bonds!” was his reply when asked about the same. Sometimes it becomes difficult as members want to give external links or if the discussion gets personal and when some action is taken, members get annoyed. Some are even banned but the owner manages it well and takes them back, after a nice talk with them, and this is the best part of it that such members are still active on the community.

The community members did try to make a plan to meet offline for a movie at its first show in their thread , “Movie Meet” but as booking tickets for the very first day is difficult when you do not know how many people will pop up. But still they look forward to it and we are sure will make it soon!

Going through the community forum one can get to see fascinating reviews and never ending interesting debates on actors, as like this one “Amir V/s SRK”. All these threads like“Madagaskar2”, “Rock on”, “Taare Zameen Par”, “The Dark Knight,Sarkar Raj“, “Tashan”, are all a hit on the community forum as are the movies. There are some members who attended the “Film Festivals”. The community members had a discussion on “Pune International Film Festival” which is another captivating thread where movies discussed were of different languages. Any wrong information posted by a member is immediately corrected by the alert members, and Aniruddha feels happy for this.

The noticeable part of the FDFS is the al the reviews done are quite authentic and good quality through out, which is usually unlikely in such types of communities. It gives vital information to many movie passionate who after going through the reviews here, decide , if they want to go for the movie or not , which of course saves their time and money and avoids them to get upset because of going for a flop picture.

Aniruddha thinks and plans to grow the community better in the coming future and continue in the race of being the best of its kind. When asked, if he would like to thank anyone, for making the community a success, he replies. “I must thank all the members who post their honest reviews. And also people like “Orkutheroes” for appreciating…
And of course the film fraternity for churning out movies and giving us the food for thought
!” Of course with a smile as always!

Well, we thank you Aniruddha for working on such unique concepts and providing the users with vital information, though in your own way of having fun, and giving us communities like First Day First Show! I must say, to all the readers, do visit this community and join it at the very First Show!
