Google has been rolling out new versions of Google Maps for mobile at a fast pace lately, and the first Google Maps for BlackBerry update of 2010 has some very useful features. The new version 4.0 includes features which makes it easier and faster to find places, post from those places with Google Buzz, you could even star them for quick access, and more.

Search by voice
This exciting feature enables the user to search a location without typing a word. It would be of a great use for starters, this newly added Search By Voice for all BlackBerry devices lets you search simply by pressing and holding the green “call” button, speak your search, and your results would appear on the screen without the need of typing a word. Currently supported languages include multiple English accents and Mandarin Chinese.

Google Buzz
Google Buzz for mobile also makes its debut on BlackBerry phones in Google Maps 4.0 on many phones and currently supports 40 languages. From the Maps main menu, select Layers > Buzz to enable the layer; open the menu and select “Post Buzz” to add your own public post from a location or place, you can also share pictures, news, and more.

Personalized Search Suggestions.
The BlackBerry version now provides personalized search suggestions from your maps.google.com search history. To use this feature you need to sign in to your Google Account and make sure that Web History feature is enabled.
Signing in to your Google Account also synchronizes starred items between maps.google.com on your computer (My Maps > Starred items) and phone (Menu > Starred Items).
Many other new features like Google Labs, Local Business Center and Report a problem have also been added with 4.0
To get started, install the latest version of Google Maps 4.0 for BlackBerry by going to m.google.com/maps in your BlackBerry’s Internet Browser. The update for BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators and users, including support for BlackBerry OS 5.0 phones, is available here.
