Good News for all email users of U.K. Google’s popular mail service Gmail will be providing them their email ids with “@gmail.com” instead of prevailing “@googlemail.com.” (source)
Whenever a person makes a new email id he is looking for something very short and easy to remember. British people were uncomfortable with Google’s practice of providing them email ids ending up with “@googlemail.com”. As it is very lengthy to type and tell others.
Google has decided to give back British People “@gmail.com”. this news has made them very happy because while typing gmail one has to type 50% less characters than googlemail.
Overjoyed people have calculated that this name change will help them save approximately 60 million keystrokes a day. At about 217 micro joules per keystroke, that’s about the energy of 20 bonbons saved every day!
According to google staff this transition will take place by next week. All new entrants will be by default provided the address with @gmail.com and old users will get an option to switch to “@gmail.com” for free or they can retain their ids with “@googlemail.com.”
On personal note I doubt whether an existing “@googlemail” id will be available with “@gmail.com” or not?
For example if an id is like abcd@googlemail.com will the person will surely get abcd@gmail.com or system will say “Sorry this id is already taken. Select new one.”
Such confusions will be cleared in the coming week as new updates are made.
