Online dating, photo sharing, fun, entertainment, forum games and visiting profiles are some very common and usual activities on any social networking site, but some people think other way and so do Priyanka a married woman and a mother of a “dashing” boy, Priyanka thought to make a place for other daddies and mommies like her on orkut.com by creating a community dedicated to Indian parents, Indian Parenting is a strong community of more than 2k active parents discussing on every issues related to child upbringing, in this interview session we invited Priyanka to share more about her sweet and equally strong community and her personal life and thoughts.

Priyanka how an Indian Parenting came up? What is the objective and main purpose?
When I joined Orkut, I looked for a parenting community but could not find one.
So I decided to create Parenting community myself, i invited a lot of parents and started healthy discussions which created interest in many young parents and expected mothers. I may be the owner of Indian Parenting but this community is growing because of each and every parent there.
As a parent yourself how much Indian Parenting benefited you?
A lot, Indian Parenting Community has changed my views and I have learned a lot through others experience.
Priyanka why you chose orkut to made this community? As your orkut profile shows that you are professionally learned web designer so you can also make a website/community forum dedicated to Indian parents.
I have my own website named www.desithai.com and over there in discussion forum i have kept a forum separately for Indian Parenting..
but not much members post topics there as its a new website.
I have joined parenting groups and communities in facebook too.
As a working women how do you manage time between work and family and your activities on different social networking sites. How many hours/mins in a day you give to Indian Parenting?
I get up @ 5pm everyday and finish my work in morning, make my son ready for school @ 7.00 pm. I try reaching office early so I can give time to my website..
then in lunch time and free break I do orkutting and check my website
after I reach back home I try to give whole of my time to my son
Please tell us about your kid, how old he is and how naughty he is?
my son will be 5 this month, he is a very sensible child, he is naughty only sometimes not always
What are your personal thoughts on Indian parents? You know that child upbringing in India is very different(socially, culturally) from other progressed countries like U.S and U.K, do you believe that parents of those progressed countries are more advance and active in the upbringing of the child then an average middle class Indians? Please throw some light on this issue.
I believe in individual parent upbringing, it all depends on what culture and upbringing you want to give your child, parents living in India might get all latest toys and stuff from foreign county and give free and modern beliefs to child and on the other hand family living outside India might not allow children to lead a free and modern life. They are forced to follow the culture strictly so it all depends on individual parent or family upbringing.
What are your personal thoughts on an abortion? Do you think that mother has right to decide abort her baby or not? We saw the increasing number of abortion going on everyday since the social life of an average Indian is changed and people are more career and health conscious then before.
I hate the word abortion, if god has decided to send the child to you then who are you to kill the baby, abortion is another term of murder.
if the baby is not fully developed or organs are not developed then the parents can decide to keep or not to keep but getting aborted because u didn’t want the baby is bad.
Do you think that after the success of Indian Parenting community on orkut your aim is accomplished? or do you have any more future plans for it? and what do you think about orkut.com as a social networking site?
Orkut is a very good social networking site but few people misuse it so we all have to be careful. My next aim is to make www.desithai.com a success, its also a social networking site.

Thank you Rural Physician for your comment and visit to this site, Indian parenting community is really helpful for me when i faced a small problem but big mental stress due to my baby’s ill health.
