Ishan Agarwal- Martial Art Maestro

by zazo on October 26, 2008

ISHAN AGRAWAL, the man who needs no more introduction, is India’s one of the best known martial artist. Born on 26th August 1986 in Baroda, Gujarat. had very keen interest in Martial Arts and started learning this deadly sport at the raw age of 8.  After Karate, he learnt several other arts like Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Kobudo, Muaythai etc.  He has been undefeated National & International Karate Champion for Many Years.Considering his Achievements, and Excellent Hard work for promoting Martial Arts, he has received Several Awards from different Federations of the Countries Like Saudi Arabia, U.S.A, Iran, Thailand, Greece, Pakistan and India.

He not only fights with his kicks and fists, but also with his pen. A fighter in real sense. He is Editor & Publisher of India’s premier Martial Arts Magazine & Newspaper “MARTIAL ARTS WORLD” & MARTIAL ARTS SAMURAI”.

Since how long you have been into martial arts?

It has been more than a decade now, 15 years to be more precise.

Why You Choose Martial Arts ? What so Special in that ?

I was interested in Martial Arts from My childhood.  Martial Arts is the Combination of Overall Development of Human being by Mentally as well as Physically. It makes a man perfect.

You have also entered into Limca Book of Records… is it for Martial Arts..?

Yes, I am in the Limca Book of World Records, but it is not for Martial Arts. I have received this honor for being the Youngest Editor in the Country.

There are so many forms of fighting like Muaythai, Wushu and Kobudo,.. can you breif us as to what exactly these forms are??

Muaythai, Wushu, Kobudo, Karate all are the different branches of Martial Arts.  Martial Arts is like a University in which Muaythai, Wushu, Kobudo, Karate and many other are the branches.

Various forms of kickboxing have long been practiced throughout Southeast Asia. As with the most countries in the region, Thai culture is highly influenced by ancient civilizations within Southeast Asia. Muay Thai’s origin in Thailand can be traced back to its ancestor Muay Boran (“ancient boxing”), an unarmed combat used by Siamese soldiers in conjunction with Krabi Krabong, the weapon-based style . Muay thai is referred as  “The Art of the Eight Limbs”, as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai (“nak muay“) thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight “points of contact,” as opposed to “two points” (fists) in Western boxing and “four points” (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.

Wushu, also known as modern wushu or contemporary wushu, is both an exhibition and a full-contact sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts. It was created in the People’s Republic of China after 1949, in an attempt to nationalize the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts.  Wushu is Modern form of Shaolin Kungfu.  Wushu is consisting of Two Parts one is Taolu and other is Sanshou.  Taolu are the Forms and Sanshou is the Fighting.

Okinawan kobud? is a Japanese term that can be translated as “old martial way of Okinawa“. It generally refers to the classical weapon traditions of Okinawan martial arts, most notably the rokushakubo (six foot staff, known as the “b?”), sai (short unsharpened dagger), tonfa (handled club), kama (sickle), and nunchaku (nunchucks), but also the tekko (knuckledusters), tinbe-rochin (shield and spear), and surujin (weighted chain). Less common Okinawan weapons include the tambo (short staff) and the eku (boat oar of traditional Okinawan design).

How do you see martial art? As a sport like any other sports or only as a self defense technique?

Martial Arts have many aspects of it.  We can consider it as a sport too and as a self defense technique too. Nowadays, it is being perceived as Fitness Mantra. And for me Martial Arts is my Life, it’s My Passion, without it I am Nothing.  As whatever today I am, it’s all because of Martial Arts.

From fighting to writing… Why this sudden change??

Martial Arts World Magazine is India’s premier International Martial Arts & Sports Magazine.  Martial Arts World Magazine is Covering  all the Events of India as well as other Countries.  We are receiving so much response from all over India as well as other countries.  Our Magazine is distributed at International level and has created a good position.

About in 2004 I have started working for developing Martial Arts World.  Before, I have written many articles for many national as well as International Magazines.  So I thought to develop something different and I have sent it for the Registration in Registrar of Newspaper of India and fortunately my title was approved and I commenced it in Year 2005 by bringing my first Edition in August 2005.

I am very thankful to my family members especially my sister Bharti Agrawal to support me at the Initial Stage of the Magazine.  And my friend philosopher and guide Sensei Yogendra. For it is because these people I am where I am today.

What are the Objectives of Martial Arts World ?

The Objectives of Martial Arts World is to unite all the Instructors and Students of Martial Arts of the World Together.  They can come closer to each other and have brotherhood by developing relations in Martial Arts.  My Main motive is to Promote Martial Arts in India so much so that people will forget Cricket one day.

Who is Your Idol and Why?

My Idol is My Beloved Lord Sai Baba.  All the credit for my success goes to My Lord Sai Baba.  The Time whenever I think about him, He is in front of me, Whatever problem arise, Immediate solution will be there, He is always there to helping me

Would you like to name some national and international martial arts masters you have met in your lifetime? Who impressed you the most and why?

The list of the Masters is too Long, so to name the few is not good.  I always Learn Something from each Master.

In Olympics Indian martial art never left his mark nor did any martial art master ever grab the medal, what do you think? Where the thing is lacking?

Yeah its absolutely true that in Olympic Indian Martial Arts never left his mark.  The Major Reason is Right now only Taekwondo and Judo is the Olympic Game where as Karate and Wushu are in the list for coming in International Olympic Committee.

But still no one has grab medals in Olympics.  The Major thing is the Support from the National Olympic Committee is much lacking.  As the Students who are very good in Martial Arts are mostly from the Middle Class or Lower Class family and they cannot be able to afford to go at international level and also they cannot afford much equipment to practice nicely.  And Even the Dedicated Coaches are also left very less, all are running after making money any how by exploiting or destroying students carrier or by doing anything.  So there is the Need for the Students to become awarded for selecting a good Master for learning Proper Martial Arts.

Why you are doing CA(Chartered Accountancy) course? Didn’t you thought of making your passion into profession or do you think martial art or MAW magazine wont able to earn you bread?

About Doing CA, Its My Dad’s theme that I should become the CA and of course I am also doing it for making my career.

I am also thinking for making my passion into profession and even I have done it also by giving maximum time to magazine rather than studies.  But it is very difficult for any person to make Money from running Martial Arts Magazine and running Martial Arts Classes.  No doubt many instructors are there who are earning their bread by running Martial Arts Classes but they are doing it Full time.  But still there is the Problem in that, as the competition arises many masters are coming so the numbers of classes are increasing, and one major problem is that Up to the level you are able to work hard you can earn but what about for your future, Up to certain age you can practice too, but not at the old age so at that time you will be in much difficulties so It is better to Complete Our Education too so that in future the problem doesn’t arise.

What are your future plans? Where do you see yourself in next 10 years?

About My future plans, Presently My Magazine is going to each and every part of  the country.  But in Future I have dream of making it at the Corporate Sector and I also want to develop an International School Premises in India where all the Martial Arts Can be taught by different faculties under one roof and that I will fulfill soon.

Me and in next 10 years, I am seeing myself in the India’s Top 10 Personalities and successful and Young Personalities and a Strong and a big Business Tycoon.

Are you happy with the Indian Sports ministry?  If not, why?

Of Course No….. I am not at all happy with the Indian Sports Ministry.

Because the major reason is the Indian Sports Ministry is not helping the Games which are in need of the support but are helping those who are already developed and many people are there to help them.

The Sports Ministry have to take Certain Measures for developing Other Games also in India so that the help can be reached to those individuals who are really working hard for grabbing the medal in Olympics.

Even there are much politics going on at the National Level, If you have Some Jacks or any contact with Ministers or Some Tycoons than you will be surely able to go at International level but what about the Others..?

Who don’t have any contact?  Who don’t have enough Money?  Who have Good Skills? Who is very serious about the Sports..?

Sports Ministry has to come forward to help those who are in need for it.  They have to soon take certain measures for developing the other arts too.

What is your every day schedule? How much time you give to your passion i.e. martial art and your studies?

About my daily schedule, maximum of my time are given to my passion i.e. Martial Arts and I am giving rare time to my studies… but At the time of Exams I have to give my maximum time to my studies. As about in the 30 days of the Month I am outside my State for more than 10  days and in other 20 days there are several programs throughout the State for which I was invited and was preparing Paper work for them.

But in my schedule on Thursday whenever I will be in my state from 6.30 in evening until 9.30 – 10.00 I am at the Temple of My beloved Lord Sai Baba.

Do you feel you are successful at this point of life?

Yeah of course I am very successful at this point of Life because when I am seeing the other people of my age they are still enjoying the life on the Pockets of their Father but I am not one of them.  At this particular age the other individuals has not even seen the Different parts of the country where as I had visited more than 25 states of India till date and received many honors and awards.

So that is enough for me at this Age.  People saying about me that “What we are unable to do at our age i.e. 45 that you have done in 22″.  So that much is enough for me.

If you wont be what you are today than where we could see Ishan now?

I am where I was destined to… so I don’t think that I would have been anywhere else today…
