Mumbai under attack- How orkut mumbaikars reacted?( updated)

by zazo on November 27, 2008

Lots of discussions, rumors and worries poured over the biggest virtual place for Indians, Orkut.com after the terrorist attack on mumbai recently which took life of some 80 125 people including 3 top IPS officers of India and injured more than 200 300people. Mumbai and India is under attack once again, since last night of Wednesday 26th Nov. Till today morning things are not clear and over, still people are stucked in Taj and Oberoi hotels of Mumbai, India and military/commando operations are going on.

My country and countrymen have tears in their eyes and fear in their hearts, we certainly don’t fear of our lives but we care about our family, children, mother and sisters. I don’t need to say how much I am attached with my country and Mumbai where I passed my 7 golden years of life. I know the in and out of Mumbai, the spirit, the josh!, the love and care of people with each other despite of different caste, color and religion!

In this article I only intended one thing, to spread the message of orkut members who are involved in some most active communities related to India and Mumbai, How they reacted and what they discussed on this terror attack on Mumbai on 26th november 2008?

I chose 2 top most communities of orkut and their discussions on Mumbai 26/11 attack. The community India and Bombay(Mumbai) which are one of the most active community and flooded with hundred and thousands of posts on one forum thread since last night about Terror attack on Mumbai.

Orkut Community Bombay: This is orkut’s one of the best and most active community for people in Mumbai or from Mumbai. With the strength of more than 35000 members, Bombay community was on all shock since the first news of attack came by the thread titled “Blast and Firing in Mumbai 26th Nov”has started by one community member Koyote(name changed) and lots of replies started following within the minutes. Most of them were worried about the other members who live in Mumbai and their relatives and friends. Soon, the reactions started with the disappointment and harsh feeling against the state and central governments where some community members demanded the authority to step down from their posts and power if they can’t save people’s lives. One community member of Bombay community Dr. Hemant Mittal posted

“People its time to act” The Government. of the people,

by the people, for the people…has to help its people….
and we the common man! Have to wake up too..
Everyone be safe..
Please remember tomorrow morning is not just another day
It’s the day of Rising!!!!”

I succeeded in talking with Dr Hemant Mittal and ask his views and opinions on this tragic incident which shook the whole world which is fighting against terrorism from many years, Dr Mittal scrapped me “1. its an outright act of cowardice shown by these insignificant, illiterate, uncultured, inhuman people.
if defaming india is their motive, then why not do it at an international forum, where it will make a difference.
obviously they are trained, youth…probably pakistani help. which can be deduced from their face, cold blooded nature, voice…attitude..
obviously with good terror network in india…logistics for carrying out such an operations must have been amanzing…they shud have planned it months ahead…with rekki of every place..and every possible move.

hats off to the mumbai police. its simple to criticize the intelligence failure, and police action. But comendable efforts for a force of hardly a hand-ful people, who live under severe stress, lead lives as per ruling regime, and have to cater to 20million people. with just rudimentary equipment at their disposition, they have shown great human management, and alertness to keep the situation from flaring into an international show of gross incompetence and lethargic attitude by our govt.

we cannot expect much from the goverment. The present govt. has not only proved, but multiple times stamped its on developmentally challenged nature in controlling terrorist attacks. In the 5 yrs…apart from changing clothes the home minister does even have crocodile tears next to a saas-bahu soap opera actor.
democracy is all about a govt of the people and for the people, our ruling political parties either are illiterate and havent read this…or a paralytic attack has damaged their cognitive abilities to think….
as for the non-rullig parties…its easy to advocate measures…and easy to advocate rules/regulations to obey…easy to beat up people from regions not yours…but in time of need…where are they.. they have human chain of workers, logistics in term of space, money and brain power..use it to help the needy…show social responsibility…not just vote-begging responsibilty…

for the common man… he suffers…be him rich, poor or middle class..he takes the brunt. those who loose a relative know the pain. he who looses a limb knows the pain. he who commutes through those lanes knows the fear.. he who gets out of his house every morning knows the anxiety…
in 10days this wil become a great coffee table discussion, with the police nabbing some god-damn chap from some god-damn shaddy place… the common man will be sipping his coffee and animatedly discussiing the events to his peers…to forget it with the last sip he takes…
its time for him to wake up..lets start moving towards a better society.
those who can think, can come out with ideas…those who can work..can work upon those ideas…and all can reap the fruits of it.
we should leave excuses.

Another member, Koyote(name changed) started this thread was looking most shocked and inconsolable when he wrote that its time to declare war same like United states did after 9/11, he said that declare it against whoever did it and that’s the only solution, according to his opinion. One active member Avinash (name changed) who don’t belong to Mumbai but been there many times and love the city and its secularism, said in one of the reply”..Only place in India where I have seen Muslim Women entering Hindu Temple(Mahalakshmi temple) I was so happy seeing the secularism of Mumbai..Hope Mumbaikars don’t lose their cool over other religions during these times and don’t fall to the plans of these asses “

Avinash (name changed) replied to one community member whose opinion was based on latest released movie Wednesday and Rang de basanti.

“real life situations are not like what happens in Movies..The real fact is we can’t do anything as done in the movie like Wednesday or Raang de basanti..One thing we can do is not to let the fire inside us chill after things normalize…We got to do something for our country even if its a small things as respecting the rules or reporting suspicious acts or assisting the security forces during check ups and raids..”

“I know actions speak louder than words ..But by discussing in forums like this ,we can know more about the opinion of people from all walks and all castes and remove our misunderstandings..People who have downright hatred from their heart on people from other religion would also understand the feelings of other people..”

Added Avinash.

Till the end of the thread I monitored that was the last message “ Mumbai spirits will never die, thanks to our security forces, military and commandos and Mumbai Police for struggling hard to save lives of people.

Orkut community India: Only biggest and most active community has a big and interesting history is also one of the most busy and highly respected communities of orkut. Over 8 lakh orkut users are members of this community, they talk on each and every issue related to India and Indians. News of attack on Mumbai spread all over the globe like a jungle fire, India community on orkut is over flooded with nearly 4000 replies in less than 10 hours on a thread “Firing In Mumbai” The topic starter undoubtedly an active India community member was himself not sure of what’s going on after the first media news “Times Now” most of the members were totally unknown and have no clue about the tragedy which started in Mumbai last night.

Many of the community members thought that it’s a kind of gangwar going on in Mumbai but soon when media started the full coverage the story came in front of them that it is another and most horrified terrorist attack on India.

One India community member who wrote in the thread that he eye witnessed the blast, Till many replies and posts people of India community were not so sure about what’s going on in Mumbai because of rumors and different news on different news channels, but soon the picture got cleared and reactions started flowing straight from the heart, the pain, the anger and the sadness of young Indians who find themselves in a dark future where government and policies are nothing but a stage show and we citizens are stupid audience who trusted them and voted them to be our leaders.

Same like Bombay community members, India community members too support the way America fought against terrorism after 9/11 attack of twin tower. One community member replied to a post in such a manner after the 9/11 incident… there is no single blast or any terrorism in america….

The case of America is different, here terrorists cannot carry out such terror attacks with strong local support!

With the coming up state elections, congress party can loose its hope to win now, this was another opinion came from a community member after the attack on India’s commercial capital and bollywood hub Mumbai.

Till the last post on India community, people were updating latest news and information they could gather from tv and media resources and even those who are eye witnessed of everything.

Discussions on social networking sites and forums cannot solve the problem but it is a very helpful and strong way to put their own thoughts, opinions and can make more strong relation with each other, both India and Bombay community has members from all age, caste and religion and India is a multicolor, multi-religious and biggest democracy on earth. All we need is to be united in all ups and downs of our country and clean all the dust like dirty politicians and their ugly politics, our most respected and jealous neighbors and the word “terrorism” from the roots of it. Only together we can make a difference not by appointing one as our leader, so keep up the spirit and don’t let this fire of heart gets down.

I give my heartiest respect and condolence to ATS Chief Hemant Karkare , Vijay Saleskar and Ashok Kamte Add. commissioner who lost their lives fighting against the evils and all other police officers and citizens of India and other nationals who lost their lives. We flockpost.com with the team of authors and contributors condemn this attack and stand strong with our Nation, and our brothers and sisters.

It is an embarrassing moment for the police as they could not do anything to control this situation and to gun down the terrorists. I believe the MNS should step in and shoot these *****terrorists… What are you waiting for Mr. Raj Thakrey? I have blogged about it on . let the world know that Mumbai will NOT give in to terrorism…

Mumbai terror attack is outrageous … there shud be no arrests ..only encounters of these heartless creatures..

Girish Sharma November 28, 2008 at 12:22 pm

This is an attack on India not only on Mumbai. This is proved that there is a big hand of Pak, D company and underworld of Mumbai.
Mumbai is facing inner and outer both attacks.

zazo November 28, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Mumbai is still burning, gunshots and grenades are echoing…we are all sitting in front of tv and watching everything. It is first time in my life I felt so helpless, more ugly is that every time when the news channels give advertisement break we see advertisement of government parties begging for vote in the name of terrorism.

We don’t need you…..if you cant hear this then let me say this again “WE DONT NEED YOU ALL” we need action, action and no talks, Mr prime minister do something instead of your long written lectures. As an author and founder of this blog I know my responsibility and want to control my emotions but I will not, I will not going to stop nor the youth like me will stop now.

Enough!

To be frank, I can’t see anymore of it on television.. It’s just too much. To think we’ve been made to watch with our hands tied as such a grossly inhuman act is being carried out, it just boggles the mind. You never think this can happen in real life… till it does.

I swear, I wish those guys were captured alive and then tortured in public till they died.. just so that ‘the next bunch’ of assholes waiting to try this out have second thoughts.

Hasan November 29, 2008 at 12:25 am

Hi,
Anger and rage are obvious among people. But when we claim to be independent and more learned generation of nation’s youth, have we ever tried to question and assess the roots of terrorisms in society in general to produce long term goals.
It is time that we spend some anger and rage to discipline our own habits of supporting corruption and to reform our own selves to be a better society in first place.

Zazo, and everyone is talking about action. What action you want to see? Someone said being tortured in public till they die. Till now UAE govt is being condemned by so called modern youth of our own and other countries for having very strict laws.

De-regulation and over-regulation are in iteslf evils that have spawned terrorism in the first place. This is the time to reform our own society and our own individual habits in first place rather than blaming the govt.

From not wearing a seatbelt and helmet while riding a bike to bribing govt officials to get paperwork done, the loopholes lie in the individual choices that make the society vulnerable. TOP cops became martyrs.

We easily say that the purpose of terrorists was to cause terror. But why? What actually goes on in their minds about us? What do they consider us? Terrorism can be confronted by violence but can not be removed from roots through an act of force.
The act should be to reform ourselves and bring down the corrupted forces within the country to its knees. We never confront our friends if we find them doing small corruptions. People usualy flaunt having got something done by method of bribes. The vulnerabilities lie within us as much as the terrorists.

If you guys are so angry, reform your self first rather than bragging about action.

thank you

Did you know that Raj Thakare is hidding under the bed for the past 3 days?? have you guys seen him somewhere? Maybe in some news channel?? what a sad person? Selfish, coward, and what else can you call him… he thinks that he is a braveheart but I still wonder where is he??? why isn’t he coming forward to save Mumbai… where are all his follower… they should have been force to be infront before the NSG or the commando even took charge. I guess all of them are cowards.

People of Mumbai have to wake up and realize that he’s a coward & teach him a lesson. All what is happening is because of his divide and rule that have prompted such attacks. They should throw stone at him the next time he comes out to speak his shitty things about North Indians and marathi. He thinks that he’s the tiger of Mumbai.. he should have led from the front & fight for Mumbai…. but where is he??? Guys if you meet him tell him to better shoot himself or hang himself & die… He’s a big coward… These politicians would do anything to get votes. They would even sell the country for their benefits. Did you see on the news our man LK Advani, our Modi sahid how they use this incident for their political interest (vote banks)… realy sad… they should have been ashame that something like this happened to their country and join hand to fight this terror but what they are doing is taunting for more terror in the country… they are shameless Ba****DS. can’t they find other things to speak about to convince people? & WHY WHY WHY ARE PEOPLE SO FOOLISHLY LISTENING TO THEM??? These people does not deserve to be leaders… they are just those selfish & self centred humanbeing who only think for them self not for the country… they would divide the country in the name of religion, language, tribe, caste, beliefs and so on so forth for their interest… N OUR PEOPLE WOULD JUST FOLLOW WHAT THEY SAY AND WHAT THEY DO….

I sincerely would like to salute all the bravehearts that have risk their lives to save others. The NSG, Navy, Commandos & the police. you guys are great. you guys are the savior of our country. WE SALUTE YOU.

I THINK ITS TIME THAT WE CHOOSE THE BEST SOMEONE WHO LOVE THE COUNTRY NOT RELIGION, LANGUAGE, CASTE, BELIEFS & ETC. WE HAVE TO STAND UP PEOPLE OF INDIA AND JOIN HANDS TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE A BETTER LIFE OR A BETTER COUNTRY. LET’S JOIN HANDS LEAVING OUR RELIGION, LANGUAGE, CASTE, TRIBES, BELIEFS BEHIND. LET’S MAKE THIS A BETTER WORLD TO LIVE IN.

GOD BLESS INDIA!!!

rekha November 29, 2008 at 11:22 am

dear micky
I truly agree to ur sentiments when u talk about Raj Thakre where is this coward man and where are his people, the people who fought or sacreficed their life are not the marathis they where the brave soldiers from different state of India we should really bow our heads down and pray for them and embrace them. Now, lets talk about those selfish polticians who are taking advantage at this sad moment when they all have to be united to fight against this terrorism. But its again a one sided comment when you mention the name of only Advani or Modi whether there were no crongress polticians who were trying to take advantage then WHY only Modi and Advani names are being mentioned. All the polticians are in the same boat infact I personally feel that the present government is the one who is having the Policy of Divide and Rule. They are doing this only and only for their vote bank.

Please don’t think that i’m a bjp supporter.I’m a person who love my country a true indian.
Its high time that the young Indians should start reacting to it and we should be true and pure from our hearts as Mr.Hasan said.

Tara November 29, 2008 at 3:33 pm

@Miky, Rekha, Roshan…
I agree to you all truely..
@hasan,
I agree to you as well Hasan , but we are too late to talk on this. the time now is not to take such actions , rather we can do it side by side ofcourse but the primary need is to wake up and use our rage and anger on soething constructive and quick.being a youth , i also get angry and feel like to kill all and do the worst with them who did so bad to my country and its people, but as abided by law and certian rules i can not do that
but i feel restless about our political leaders and people like Raj thackrey…I feel like killing them first and ask them to leave us alone and let the youth take country in hand and yound intellectuals run it and do something and not just talk…

Hasan November 29, 2008 at 10:34 pm

hi tara, micky and rekha,

What micky said is one constructive action. all i wanted to say by previous post is that the action should be directed more towards reconstructing the fundamentals of existing society. The focus should not be blame but reformation of human values ‘WITHIN’.

thank you
-Hasan

Angry Indian November 30, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Guys, I know we talk about action and noone takes any action. What action can we take?

I have two ideas right now:

1. I am thinking of starting a group called “Indians Against Terror”. Agenda? – Make people more vigilant, hold politicians more accountable, make teams like the ATS, NSG stronger by giving them more sophisticated weapons and deputing such teams in every city. Finally – A disaster recovery plan in place – including blood banks, hospitals, ambulances, psychiatric help for terror victims.

2. An independant public owned wikipedia style “India Terrorist Database” – with pictures. Splash known terrorist faces all over the internet. I know this might not cover even 1% of Indians (most don’t have access to the internet), but at least it’s a start.

Who is in on this with me?

We can only Say “Dilli dilwallon ki hai and Mumbai Kabhi rukta nahi” after every incident like this. this is how we justify india’s disability against terror and politicians.

I pray we would not get another chance to describe delhi’s and Mumbai’s spirit. I dont when will the time come when all of indian common citizen would come ahead and make the system perfect.

Let’s go do somthing for our country. we can do more than lighting candles at india gate and gatway of india.

pranav December 1, 2008 at 5:41 pm

All this what has happened shows that nothing affects on we Indians be it terror attack, Bomb blast, hijack and all this. After all these kind of act we come up with same thought “we are not going to stop, nothing can make us fearful, Mumbai never stops, its Mumbai spirit and blah blah blah….. I think this is nothing but hiding our fear…. there is no spirit and how long we are going to show the spirit… this is not spirit this is our disability against terror or this unfaithful system and we show this as our spirit. Everyone knows that nothing can be done in this country through a common man.
now the only thing we can do is we can have discussions for two or three days and that’s all, back to work again and wait for next bomb blast….we can only discuss that politicians are not good and they should be kicked out or killed but its the matter of two or three days and we forget every incident…. and we will keep doing this coz we can not react for longer.

Where were they when there was terror attack in Mumbai?… but now every one is out again and doing there politics…where is so called only Marathi manooss RAJ THAKRE ? Where is Amar Singh where is “SONIA GANDHI” ?where are these uncommon people. Still today these are the matter of two three days because it is being covered through our so called very responsible NEWS channels. They are always in TRP race. Nothing is bigger and important for them as TRP. They turn as the situation is turning. But we can’t understand this coz we are not only blind but we are in coma rahter we all are mentally challenged that’s y we can’t remember the incidents and accidents and we can’t understand who are good and who are bad.

Only we are the culprits for all this happened to INDIA we have made this and now we are lighting candle and shouting at India gate… this is not going to make any difference. Candles are not going to stop these politician rather terrorists.

even I know about me I m the same common man and today I m discussing but tomorrow I’ll forget all this and have normal life till the next blast happens… so I am one common person among “WE INDIAN” and yes I still pound to be an Indian and I can’t deny this coz nothing can stop us and I have the same spirit as all other Indian have.

Budhi Nath Prajapati December 2, 2008 at 8:30 am

the supply of arms should be checked to terrorist groups by the cooperation of international community. This is the only solution to stop terrorism.
