Pune Eat Outs, Community of foodies

by zazo on September 12, 2008

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”- George Bernard Shaw

The above quote is perfect for an online community of foodies. There are 2 things which are common in that community, one is that every member loves to eat and second is every member is either living in Pune, or has moved to Pune for work or any other purpose. Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra in Western India and it is the 8th most popular metropolitan area in India with mixture of different culture and cuisine. Pune is the city of pleasure for youthfulness.

With the mixture of every color and spices of traditions and customs of India, more than 4500 internet freaks and foodies got a virtual nest on internet. Pune Eat Outs well known as PEO is an online community on social networking site Orkut.com. From local delicacies to great Indian cuisines, these netizens talk about anything related to food and knows almost each and every place of Pune which serves food, be it star restaurants or local food joints. It won’t be false if one says that PEO is an online database of restaurants, road side joints, caterers and takeaway spots of Pune and their potency is increasing constantly.

Aniruddha Patil a young IT Professional from Pune is the founder of PEO; it was his love for food which made him start Pune Eat Outs. He loves to experiment with foods and PEO just happened as it was natural to graduate to another level said Aniruddha with a smile. The community which started in September 2005 with a few members became one of the most active and useful community on Orkut.com in a span of 3 years. Aniruddha feels lucky to get so many like minded people on PEO which makes it special. Pune is also known as food capital of Maharashtra which serves varied cuisines and one can spot a lot of traditional Marathi foods like Puran poli, Junka bhakar, Maharasthrian style biryani and also Rassa non veg etc, added Aniruddha, in a brief discussion on Rated-WOW! Community Showcase. PEO is a clean; zero spam Orkut community where you can get anything you want. The discussion forum of PEO is flooding with numerous posts on each and every topic/thread and one of the specialties of this community is that whenever some one start a topic or simply post a query then the response will be unbelievably fast and ideal. Mostly people enquire about the particular place to get any special food like those who recently moved to Pune or want to know some really cool places for hot Kebabs or Dal makhni. You just name whatever dish comes to your mind and PEO members will dig it out within minutes about that dish and the place to get it. The location, ambience, costs and experience of there own will be great help for any new person who takes the risk of stepping into an unfamiliar restaurant.

PEO members not only share great moments online but they also meet often in different places of pune and its quiet obvious that the meetings would not end without having some mouth watering and favourite dishes together. Though, officially PEO meetings are held in every 6 to 8 weeks where they all have great fun and it’s needful for making a strong bond of friendship with something common in all of them. Ashvina, a freelance writer and editor, also an active member of Pune Eat Outs admits that she loves to be a part of PEO because of its activeness and to know what people like to say about food and eateries of Pune. Interestingly PEO is so much popular that around 80 different restaurants of Pune recognize it and thus came an idea in Aniruddha’s mind of introducing discount card which is known as PEO Dollar-Card by which the PEO members get around 15% of discount. What an immense idea!. When asked to Aniruddha about the future plans of PEO he said that it’s a very simple plan “To build trust and creditability. Recognitions will follow.”

Social Networking is making life simpler or complicated that’s a long debate but communities like Pune Eat Outs are always thankful to Social Networking sites for giving them a place to build a relation, a friendship and a bond which is going strong and strong and we wish PEO remains sturdy and get more strong in future, undoubtedly a WOW! Community and great effort by members and moderators.

Guys..there is new place called “Marwar” that opened up yesterday on Baner road, small shop like resturant somewhere between foodbazaar and CCD, looks like a wadapao joint from far, young boys from Jodhpur have started on shoestring budget, but the food is amazingly authentic and has a very unique earthen flavour to it, the chances are that they will mess-up in couple of months, so while they are still good..go and soak urself up in Dal-Baati and gatte ki sabji for prices as low as 50/- per head,
