Youtube: New Sports Channel For Cricket Fans

IPL’s third season was unlucky for many people like Preity Zinta whose team topped the teams of IPL from the bottom, Mr. Lalit Modi who was sacked from the post of IPL Commissioner. But this was lucky for Chennai Super kings and it was a huge Broadcast Success for Youtube with a viewer ship of 50 million

When Google acquired Youtube on 9 Oct 2006, no one would have imagined in his wildest dream that it could become such a huge success. Cricket is the favorite sport of almost every Indian but Youtube catered the passion of fans outside India. 40% of viewer ship that is about 20 million viewers were watching the streaming on Youtube from countries other than India. Youtube paid less than 10 million dollars for Internet rights. Seven sponsors paid about a million dollars to Youtube.

As this was the only professional or we can say live event covered by Youtube after the Concert of U2. Youtube could have gained viewers from the countries in which IPL was not broadcasted. Freedom to use internet anywhere from offices working in graveyard shifts or from home when other members of family are busy watching daily soaps counted for the major viewer ship. IPL broadcasted matches with a 15 minute delay which was not a big time gap made the overall experience similar to watching a live match with the added benefits of allowing you to discuss and read opinions via comments and posts.

Above mentioned points make the business of webcasting more profitable, this attracted FIFA the organization regulating the game of soccer. FIFA is also minting money by selling internet telecast rights in few countries with the instructions of a little delay so that Computers do not have conflict with the TV. Delayed Broadcast on Internet has one more benefit, suppose you are busy in a meeting or you are late from a date you can catch the exciting opening minutes of the game on internet. For example, in China’s Youku.com will show all the World Cup 2010 matches and FIFA-related programming, but with 90-minute delays. China Central Television will broadcast the games live.

Like every thing has got its own merits and demerits poor Broadband speed in countries like India can spoil the overall fun. But if you have got a good internet connection and speed, it promises a lot and delivers too.
